View Full Version : TTC & 1st appointment at QFG next week!
Hi all,
I'm new to bubhub... This forum is great, have been reading for a few days now & decided it was time to join in!
My DP and I are very excited, we have our first appointment at QFG next Friday. We're seeing the FS, nurse, psych & donor sperm coordinator, great that they could fit it all in one day! I'm a little nervous about the unexpected but am very hopeful! I'm 28, never been on the pill before and am regular... Fingers crossed that all makes for a great chance of conception! My DP is 32 and so amazing & supportive... We're really looking forward to start the ttc journey together.
Look forward to hearing all of your journey's....
Hi Kemmy, welcome to bubhub. Wow, what an exciting journey ahead!
I'm fairly new to bubhub too, there is such amazing support and information available. It can be quite addictive though, lol.
My partner and I had our first appointment back in July, seems so long ago now. We also are going through QFG. The nurses are really helpful and our FS has been great (I'm a bit biased I received a BFP last week!!!). Are you getting your head around all the acronyms?? - there is a list somewhere on here.
We both found it quite daunting not really knowing what to ask and not knowing anyone going through it. Wish I'd come on to bubhub sooner, so ask away any questions so you both don't feel isolated through the process. Take your time with your FS and write down questions you may have before you go.
Congratulations for deciding to go down the path of TTC!!:celebrate: jali
Congratulations on your bfp!!! That's amazing news :)
Still getting my head around the acronyms... Lol!
Today's the day! Feeling much anticipation, nerves & excitement!
How did you both go yesterday?? Long day and lots to take in.
We both struggled with the counsellor telling us how to parent, a little too far ahead in the big picture at that time!!
Are you comfortable with the doctor you have selected? That's important.
Then to select a donor. I had a look through but ultimately let my partner decide in the end the characteristics of donor.
If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Hey Jali,
Yes.... Big day! Much relief though, all is looking good for us hopefully. Of course it's an unknown because we've never tried to get pregnant before.
We saw Dr Marianne Ilbery, she was lovely and made us both feel really at ease. Seeing my ovaries on the ultrasound was really interesting! I was due to ovulate around that day and she was pleased with a 2cm follicle that she could see. I don't really understand it all too well yet but hopefully that's all a really good sign.
The QFG nurses were soooo lovely! We saw Julie and she was such a help, even telling us to go to Medicare & register as a family so we can reach the safety net together, something we didn't know we could do.
We agree with you re. the psych. He was actually trying to convince us to use a known donor but we had both already made the decision that we didn't feel comfortable with that. It just felt a lot like he was dotting the i's & crossing the t's really.
We were sent home with a selection of donors to choose from. There was one donor that really jumped out at us from the start, mainly due to his values and the essay he wrote. We've sent off our top 3 and just waiting to hear on Monday now. :)
How many vials did you purchase up front? That's the only thing we're a little undecided about right now?
We're hoping to try one go at IUI late Nov, early Dec and if we're not successful first try (fingers crossed we could be that lucky) we'll have a month off as Dr Ilbery is off in Jan, and try again in Feb.
How is everything going for you guys?! :)
Hi Kemmy
Glad to hear you made it through the day, so much information to take in!
Sounds like it was good timing from your cycle point of view. It's great that you can go down the pathway of IUI - much less intrusive than IVF. I went straight into IVF due to my age and stats. :fingerscrossed: to a successful first IUI.
We selected an Aussie donor therefore we didn't have to worry about number of vials, I think they put 5 in storage under the Aussie donor program. You can only access the Aussie donors if you go down the pathway of IVF (from memory there weren't very many Aussie donors compared to overseas donors). I think she suggested 2 vials with the overseas donors from memory. I hope you were able to get your first pick of donors!
You both must be so excited about your journey that you are about to go on.:babydust1: jali
Been offline for a bit, so busy with work!
Today is Cycle Day 1... We're getting very excited, we're keen to try IUI for the first time this cycle, fingers crossed!
Hi Kemmy
Excellent news you have been able to start your cycle. I don't know much about IUI cycles, hopefully not too many meds?? When do you have the IUI??
:fingerscrossed: for a BFP with your cycle!
:babydust1: jali
Hey Jali, had my first bloods this morning, have been asked to repeat my bloods again on Sat. Crossing our fingers for an insem on Mon! If I O before Mon we'll miss out this cycle as our FS is away. Doing the cycle drug free which is great! Hope all is going well for you two!! :)

Hi Kemmy, congrats on your cycle. Fingers crossed you don't O too early. It's great you can go drug free. I really hope this one works for you. Feel free to come over to the iui/iudi forum and join us on the tww thread.

You'll find a whole lot of really supportive and friendly people all going through the same cycle process. I have found them to be really really helpful. Good luck and I hope to see your there.
Hi Kemmy
How did your blood test go on Saturday? Hope you don't O too early and can have transfer tomorrow. How exiciting if you can be in the 2WW and know before Christmas!!!:fingerscrossed::fingerscrossed:
We're officially in the TWW!!! Luck was certainly on our side this weekend, our FS called us at lunch on Sat to let us know that today (sun) would be the day & she would be coming home late Sat night so could meet us at the clinic in the am! So... Today we had our first IUI! We're very excited & hopeful for a Xmas bfp :)
Hi Kemmy, sorry I have been MIA - have been on Heron Island with my partner, back to work next week.
Fabulous news you were able to have IUI - now the dreaded TWW:hugs: - you are half way there!!! How are you going?? It is such a difficult time. When do you have your BT?? Are you going to do a POAS - once you start it is difficult to stop! I did POAS both times...
Hope you are surviving the TWW and sending lots of :babydust1: your way :fingerscrossed: jali
Wow, Heron Island... I won't even pretend to not be jealous! :)
Hope you guys had an amazing time, was the weather kind?
Yep, 6dpo... And it feels like forever!
I've had a few possible symptoms but I keep talking myself out of them because it's still so early! I've felt really bloated the last few days. I was trying to describe to my DP last night what I was feeling, I'm not great at explaining it... It's kind of crampy, mainly just a lot of pressure in my lower abdomen?
Planning on treating ourselves with a POAS on Thurs when I'll be 11dpo. It's the day I have my work Xmas party so thought it'd be nice to have that little secret if it is BFP! My BT is on the 17th. :fingerscrossed:
How's that little bub of yours going? :)

Just wanted to say good luck! :fingerscrossed:
My partner and myself are hoping to start the same journey early next year, and just reading your posts makes me even more excited.
Hi Kemmy
Not much longer to go! Good luck on Thursday, hope its a BFP!:fingerscrossed: I look forward to hearing, sending lots of:babydust1:. Yes, so many feelings and google doesn't always help, such a confusing time. Are you on any medications or progesterone pessaries??
Welcome elliemaimai, best wishes to you and your patner for your exciting journey ahead in the new year. :hugs:
jali
I gave in and tested this morning at 10DPO, BFN! Can't say it wasn't a little disappointing. :( I know it's not over yet but it's still a little disheartening.
Seeing the BFN makes me think even more the symptoms I've been having might be related to the progesterone pessaries? Does anyone else get a lot of 'pregnancy-like symptoms' from using these? I only started them at 5dpo and I'm only using one at night?
I'm exhausted - slept for 10 hours straight last night, I'm hungry like a horse every day needing to eat every few hours, cramps, I'm nauseous the last few mornings, it goes away and comes back again in the afternoon... Grr!
I'm so close to the end of my TWW but not close enough for my liking!
elliemaimai - good luck with your journey! It's a very exciting time when you make the decision :) Hope it's a really quick journey for you both! Do keep us updated. :)
Oh good luck with it all! My DP and I had an appointment with Melbourne IVF earlier in the year but have tried a home insem first with a known donor. If that doesn't take we will be having our second Melb IVF appointment and proceeding with them instead. Thought we might as while try the "new old fashioned way" first considering we had an offer from a supportive friend... and IVF cost a fair bit. Would be worth every cent though!

Hey LexnLux
Good luck with this try!! :fingerscrossed: you never know!
I did fall pregnant our first try at IUI but sadly the embryo wasn't healthy enough to hold on so we'll be back in early Feb for our second attempt at IUI.
Keep us posted!
I will - and you too Kemmy!
