Ok
My question/s to you fellow bubhubarians... is Have you taken your pet on holidays with you? And where did you stay...
I've had a look at abook but would like to know first hand accounts.... Or should i just fork out for a kennel...
Disaster  or A must do? :smiliedance:
I don't even know if i'd like to leave them at home with someone or at a kennel couldn't stand the thought of my babies missing me...

We have taken our dogs on a few camping holidays. Its fun, well fun if you dont mind sharing tent with two stinky dogs who like to sleep as close as possible to you!! We are in SA and there are a few places that allow camping with Dogs. LAst time was to the Flinders ranges a private park called waraweena - it was great!! The dogs thought they were so so lucky!
Our dogs have also been in the Kennels a few times - and last time we had a bad experience with our Shepherd getting injured so we will look for a different place next time. Anything up to a week they go into the kennel, but they dont like it.
We went to Europe last year for a month and I was dreading leaving my babies so I did some research and found a dog breeder with a farm who was happy to let our dogs run around with hers, she even let them in her house at night!! so that was pretty good.
I guess it all depends where you want to go aswell... There are a few websites for holidays with dogs -
www.dogsonholidays.com.au
www.holidayingwithdogs.com.au
We found places as our friend had a book that she bought that listed all the places you can take dogs - and we wanted our dogs to have a holiday with their dog... so cute!!

As said, there are a fair number of places that allow pets to stay with you. But it does depend on the type of dog sometimes. Some places may only allow small dogs. We have 2 large active dogs that are chasers and hunting dogs, so farm stays aren't really an option for us unless we have the dogs tied all the time, which defeats the purpose of bringing them with us.
So we use kennels. Although I've never had a terrible experience with kennels, it does pay to do a lot of research and get a recommendation from someone you trust.

Last year I was away on my honeymoon for a month. I had my mum who was living interstate at the time, come to housesit my two dogs. i guess it depends how long you are going for and where you are going to. I know what you mean by having your 'babies' missing you. Im going in to hospital on Friday and Im going to miss my dogs sooooo much. I will probably cry. Luckily my mum now lives across the road from me so she will come and feed and play with them everyday that Im gone.
Have you got someone to come and feed them daily? If not, then maybe the kennel is a good idea if you cant take them with you.

It is in NSW tho, so i dont know if this helps, but you can take your pets with you, and it seems like such a nice place, and its not that expensive either

We use Don't Fret Pet when we go away and can't take our girls with us. They go to the house of a doglover who looks after them while we are away (better than they get looked after at home I am sure!). We like ti much better than kenneling them and they don't fret while we are away which means we can relax and not have to worry about them.
Although would much prefer to have them with us!
