my 5-month old son ethan has been on losec for silent reflux since 7 weeks old. it turned him into a different boy as he stopped screaming after feeds almost immediately. however he has always had sleeping problems even with the losec - cat napping during the day and waking at night 2-4 times. he has slept through the night once and i didnt sleep at all that night because i was constantly checking him!
he is on a 4-hourly routine, breast fed with a dreamfeed at around 10.30. i found the routine really helped in the early days along with keeping him upright for as much as an hour at nightfeeds. around 4 months he started settling and resettling himself without his dummy and his day sleeps are now 1.5-2 hours long. but - in the last 4 weeks he has started waking more often at night and wont self-settle - generally every 1.5-2 hours. We use a dummy to resettle him and he resettles fast only to wake again in a couple of hours' time. in the last week he has been waking every 15 mins for 2hour periods at least once during the night. He is asking for his dummy more and more too whereas before he never needed it during the night.
at first it was a cold that was bothering him as he was having breathing difficulties. he is over his cold now and he is still waking.
I'm not sure what is going on and i am wondering could it be the reflux even if the medication is helping his pain? he is generally at his worst 2 hours after the dreamfeed and i am seriously thinking about dropping it as he wakes up during the dreamfeed anyway these days and often cries after it (until recently he used to stay asleep and settled perfectly - it used to be his best feed). I thought I was on top of managing his reflux but now i'm not sure. He is also coughing, hiccupping more than ever and has started to get really anxious with strangers and new situations. Dont know if it is all linked...
