I need new teeth.:p i went last year i think to the public hosp clinic cos i had severe tooth ache and it was the stupidest thing i could have done:thumbsdown: the pain is worse now and the filling is ugly and leaked out all over my other teeth. I just cant afford a private dentist though ill be getting private cover next year sometime so may get to go 2008 with the waiting lists:o:D

*just wanted to add before the hosp clinic it was 10 years since i went to the dentist!! - bet thats a record*

Just over 1.5yrs.....

DH and I each have a false front tooth, due to childhood incidents :o, and horrible wisdom teeth so we're saving up the $$ to get our brand new shiny front teeth when I turn 21 :smiliedance: and possibly our wisdom teeth removed :fingerscrossed:

Our temporary false teeth definitely need urgent replacement though :crying:

Just over 12 months ago when I had my wisdom teeth out.I go for a check up every 6 - 12 months because I am anal about oral hygiene! :o

Me too! So we all go every six months, for check up's.
 Kids love going but, DH hates it. He had not been in about 8 years

I went about 14 months ago, but was pg up intil 12 weeks ago so couldn't go when pg.
Before that though......20years:eek: Didn't want to go public and didn't have the money to go private until I got my private health cover about 16months ago :yelclap: The dentist did say my teeth were very good though especially given the fact it had been so long. Got 2 fillings though ;)

What a coincedence. I have been struggling through today with a wicked toothache.. why do we always get the toothache on a public holiday? no dentists open.

Anyway, it's been about four weeks since my last visit, but before that it was over 2 years. I suck at keeping dentist appointments.. and now that my tooth is hurting, I am paying for it.

I guess that's poetic justice, but I still don't think I'll learn from it.

I too am one of these people who has vowed never to let my kids be as neglectful about going to the dentist as I have been!!

Last time I went was about 10 years ago when I had to have a tooth pulled.

I tend to only go if I absolutely have to, so I plan on changing that once my kids are old enough to start going to the dentist.

I honestly think that dentistry should be able to be bulk billed in the same way as a visit to the GP. I find it difficult to part with a couple hundred bucks just for a "check-up", you know?

ummm, probobly over 10 years here. The only time in my life I ever saw one was when the dental van came to school. So in my lifetime I've seen a dentist maybe twice.

I went 3 weeks ago cos Ive had sore wisdom teeth. I have to wait another 2 weeks before I see a surgeon about getting them out. One of them is infected at the moment so I can't talk, I can't eat and I cant sleep. :crying: So I'm off to the dentist again on Thursady if it's not better by then to get some antibiotics.

I dragged DH along with me a month ago with me.

I couldnt get fillings ( need one ), sogot my teeth cleaned but he wanted to pull out my wisdom tooth ( massive filling fell out and now half of that tooth is missing ) while I am pregnant... IN THE CHAIR  NOWAY!

But...

my poor DH has been back on a weekly basis, chaging his grey fillings to white, resurfacing teeth etc... $400-$680 a pop! HE NEVER ASKS how much its going to cost ...:banghead: . He feels rude in doing so????? Did we win lotto???

Like I care if his fillings are grey!

I hadn't been to the dentist since I was a kid probably in Primary School (??) until within the last year because I was eating sour skittles (yum) and a back tooth crumbled. Ouch!! I was quite lucky though as my dentist who is a family friend said the rest of my teeth were in great condition and colour. But I've cut back on the lollies just incase

its been just about over 2 yrs for me...
[before that it was prob'ly close to 10 yrs, again the cost... i was a hard worker when i was young, but never had dentist price sort of income...]

last time i went was in the public system, took over a year?
to be told my holes werent extreme enough to have done yet & to have my wisdom teeth pulled out [all 4, no room] i could choose to have them in the chair - WTF! - or go under general, min 2 yrs waiting list...
well, then i moved... twice..

will have to try & get back on a list in our new location,
but not holding my breath considering the last place was quite populated not a country hick rural area....

i would hate to think how much i could spend on my mouth privately..
i have 3 chipped teeth, holes & wisdoms.... & i could get braces... i think i'd be up for more than a deposit on a house or a car

vent =
what also pee's me right off, is alot of my dentist problems were obvious as a teen, when i was under the govt's care for 10 yrs, they were supposedly my guardian -state ward - but i was never looked after as a proper parent/guardian would do... why did they even bother pretending they cared - i dont know~!
:banghead: ... hmm, hijack rant over :o

its rediculous the price of dentisits. i mean the only real way is to go private as when you gotta go you gotta go. I feel dentists should be like drs though either reduced with medicare or bulk bill. If they want people to have good teeth and get regular preventative care then they should make it more affordable. You can easily spend $200 in one appointment:(

It was today, actually.

Only because I was eating a lolly on sunday and my tooth broke, and for $175 it's fixed.

I always close my eyes when they are working on my teeth. Does anyone else do this? I just don't want to see the needle or drill coming in, I'm already petrified as it is just sitting in the chair.
