View Full Version : Too young for yoghurt?
My daughter has always been a bit of a vomiter but as she grew older the problem gradually improved. Yesterday I fed her some yoghurt (petit miam) and she had a very vomitty day. We went through several changes of clothes, and I wonder if it was the yoghurt  My daughter is 6.5 months old. What is your experience of feeding yoghurt to a little one. Did you have any dramas?
Thanks,
dee dee
I started my bub on youghurt at 5 months and he loves it. So much so that I tried to introduce him to custard and he gagged and spat it out, I think it must be too sweet.
I prefer petit miam over valia baby youghurt.
I started ds on yoghurt at around 6.5 months and he loved it. So much so that we bought a yoghurt maker, which works out much cheaper.
However, every baby is different, so if your little one is having trouble maybe leave it a couple of weeks then try again. She might have just had a bad tummy day, or she might be intolerant to the yoghurt. Hard to tell.

I started feeding yogurt about the same time. At 6 months I also changed formula. My son starting pooing 5 - 10 times a day and vomiting alot. He was found to be lactose intolerant. Apparently the change in diet and the change of formula really set it off. Now he is on lactose free formula and a strict diets with no dairy. The doctor said most will grow out of it by 12 months but his seems to be getting worse.
It may just be your child and yogurt don't mix but it also could be something else. It took me almost a month to figure out what was wrong with my son.

I started Spencer on yoghurt about the 6 month mark and he loved it. But it initially made him a bit spotty around the mouth. I gave the yoghurt a break for a while and started up again a month down the track. No problems and he still loves it. I guess it's a matter of their disgestive systems maturing and getting used to things.

I gave Tayla a strawberry petit miam when she was 7 months and the rest of that day she had a few spews and had diarrhoea all the next day!
I am lactose intolerant so I won't try dairy again until she is a bit older!
I don't think dairy is recommended until 12 months of age.. the proteins are a little tough on the tummy and can cause an intolerance... perhaps stop giving it and try again in a few months.
My Child Health Nurse said that you can introduce dairy products to a baby after 9 months so I never gave Jess any yoghurt till last week and she has had no problems with it. She eats a tub by herself of Valia baby yoghurt and hasn't had any problems. We have given her ice-cream and bread and butter pudding and she hasn't had any problems. We gave ice-cream at approx 7 1/2 months though.
Try leaving it a few months and try again.
Thanks for all the advice. I think I might give the yoghurt a break for awhile and try again a little later on

I found the same happened with Daniel. he had reflux and yoghurt was one of the foods that would definitely come back up and it had a really horrible smell to it when it did!
I held him off until he was 12mths old after a few really spewy days and he has taken it very well ever since.

Hi Dee dee,
I started my girls on yogurt from 7months. But i only gave them a tub every 3 days. Once they hit 10 months i gave it to them every day for morning tea.
