Stopped Feeding...

I Have Been Breastfeeding For 18 Mths & I Have Decided Too Stop For Chloe Is Having Three Meals A Day & Is Drinking Cows Milk.
I Think She Was Only Feeding From Me For Comfort When Night Night time.
Anyway Its Been Four Days Now & My Boobs Are Very Sore & Swollen, I Was Just Wondering How Long It Takes For Them To Dry Up ? :o :)

Ouch!! darling Kimmy - please, please stand under a warm shower and express a bit - or give your little poppet another feed. It's best to wean very gradually ( about one feed a week or at least every few days) so as not to become engorged and sore. This lets the boobs down gently as milk production stops more slowly.

You have done a brilliant job breastfeeding so long but do remember, breastfeeding isnt just about food -you are right - its also about comfort and security too. and this is as important as food! You have a lucky child!

I can't promise how long the soreness will last, but if you dont express a little and get comfortable (you just express for comfort -not 'empty' the breasts and stimulate more milk), you are likely to end up with mastitis.
You could also try popping some cool cabbage leaves on your breasts to relieve the swelling -its an enzyme in the cabbage that seems to do the trick!
