View Full Version : I made a fleece pocket nappy!
Inspired by meme's efforts and with the help of a pattern from Tea Lady (thanks luvs!) I decided to get the sewing machine out and have a go of making a nappy.
(Also inspired by constantly missing out on getting the nappies I want from Cherubs Kiss etcetera etcetera).
Its a fleece pocket.

I'm that pleased with myself!! Next time I will make the tabs a bit shorter and will line the pattern on the fleece so it lines up with his little butt, (its got little embroidered cars on it) but apart from that, not a bad effort for a halfwit at sewing ay??

Awww...well done Shed! :yelclap: :yelclap: That looks fantastic-did you embroider the cars? I always find a couple of 'little' things I would do different the next time-it's a great excuse to make more nappies!!!
Did you follow a pattern? If so, do you mind me asking where it came from?

I'm very impressed!
Looks really good, and doesn't require sticky tape wrapped around him to keep it up...which with my sewing skills would be vital.
You are a very capable woman.
Signed
My mother did my Home Ec sewing assignment:o
Tea Lady sent me a pattern and I adjusted it to custom fit bubby (how posh! his OWN nappy line!).
The fleece was from Spotlight, the cars were embroidered on it already. It was on special too $3 a metre.
I am going to have a go of making a PUL one next.
Wow this looks great - I would be interested in the pattern too. Where did you get the fabric??

I am sure that I could find the time. I also have the equipment, sewing machine AND overlocker. Why oh why do I not have the inclination?
Damn that PayPal.

ooooooooooooooo.....an overlocker! I'm still dreaming of that one!:p
Sal, if you were in Brisbane I would deliver it to your door. It deserves a nice home where it is appreciated and used to make pretty things. I was just thinking about what a waste it was the other day.
Might have to think about making school uniforms next year  .
Man, I would LOVE an overlocker.
Thanks for the compliments ladies! I am pretty chuffed at myself I must admit. I am not good at sewing at all, more enthusiastic than skillful! I unpicked the nappy about four times and it took me a whole day to make it. Its not that hard really, if I can do it then it must be pretty easy. I always think when I get fluffy mail "this is two pieces of material sewn together with a bit of elastic and I just paid $25 for it!!"
I have decided to give the nappy a baptism of fire, its on his butt now and I am going to leave it on overnight and see what happens. I have stuffed it with a cut down hemparoo and a microfibre insert.
So we will see what happens.

Wow Shed, it's gorgeous! So, how did it go overnight??
WOOOOO HOOOOOO!!!!
I can officially call myself a nappy maker!!
No leaks. He wore it from 10pm till his 5am feed. I was going to leave it on longer but I lost my nerve! I usually change his nappy at that time anyway so I think we can safely say it works!!
Gosh, life just gets better and better doesn't it? LOL
Now I am going to buy some PUL and this little boy's butt is going to be the flashest in the neighbourhood.

Hooray for you. You have made a boowdiful boy and now nappies. Where will it end? (Just don't go advertising yourself on that nasty website or I won't be able to place an order.) ;)

That is fantastic. I made DD2 some pockets and an AIO with fleece, as that PUL is very expensive to buy.
I have not tried one i made on her at night yet, not that brave...

Maybe we could have a home made cloth nappy off?
Like the cooking challenge or the card swap :detective: .

Why don't we do 2 different swaps - one where you swap a nappy that is say too small etc and another swap where we make one and swap it!;)
