Hi all

Up til now my dd has been really great at sleeping of a night time both in her own bed and also in her porta cot at other people's houses.

She is now 15mths old and we took her out for a night at friends for dinner a couple of months ago now and she performed, screamed, cried, went red and almost vomited from hysteria when we put her to bed in the porta cot for over an hour. In the end we got her out and let her run around whilst we had dinner and then cut our night short and went home. Of course she fell asleep straight away in the car from sheer exhaustion.

I have not had her out since but last week spent a few days at my mums place which is a five hour plus drive away. She has never been great in the car but it wasn't too bad.

The first night she went to bed in the porta cot and although cried a little, when I went in a gave her a nurse and put her back she slept through as I would usually expect.
The next two nights were horrendous. She went to bed as usual and instantly went into hyseterical crying. I mean screaming and gagging straight away like she was vomiting. I ended up the first night nursing and patting her to sleep. She then woke screaming and crying at 11.45pm and was awake off and on til 3am when my mum took over and ended up nursing her in bed for a couple of hours.
The following night she did the same thing so we ended up taking her out of the cot and putting her in the loungeroom on her little pull out sofa/couch to which she slept through til 4am.
I ended up cutting the trip short as my hubby is going away for work for almost 3weeks in total and I wanted to get back and settle her in her own bed in her own surroundings again before he left.

She still has not settled properly and performs every time we put her to bed. I used to be able to leave her for a few minutes when this has happened before to cry and she would go off to sleep but I can't now as she is instantly distressed.

Sorry for rambling but I guess I am pretty stressed out and am not sure if the upset to her routine and sleeping somewhere else has now unleashed a monster that i am not going to be able to fix.

We have decided to try a nightlight tonight to see if that helps as she seems to wake up and just cry hysterically rather than put herself back to sleep like she has always done. I know she might of got scared in a new bed etc at mums but I was hoping that it would be fine when we got home.....

Has anyone else had these problems before??? And any suggestions on how to fix it.

I guess in a way its a battle of the wills and she is winning so far as I am now scared of taking her out of her own bed etc due to the performing which I then feel that we can't go anywhere or do anything. We don't go out for dinner with her as yet as she goes down to sleep at 6.30pm or so due to being so tired and not sleeping much through the day, so it was nice to think that we could at least go to our friends and fam places with her to at least have a night out of the house..

Helppppppp.
