Hello everyone, as you all know Im waiting eagerly to test. Im now 9po with heaps of symptoms now. The one that makes me think that I am pg is the spot bleeding that I had last friday. :D
My question is I used a test called Fortel which you can get from coles and it states that you can use it 5-7 days before AF. I used it this morning and it said BFN. Im due for AF this Friday and I thought it might work since Im only 5 days away from AF. How accurate do you think the reading would be? What brands do you recommend? Im just curious on what brands you have used. With my DS I used clearblue but that was 2 days past AF due date. What brands are good to use before AF?

Naomi, the one I used was the Discover One Step Early pregnancy test. I have heard someone else got an early BFP with that one too. I got mine at 9dpo, but having said that my luteal phase is only 11 days so 9dpo for me was actually only 3 days before AF if that makes sense?

Good luck. Sounds promising! :)

I just have something else to add, the package states that it can pick up 10mlU/ml of HCG. The other ones pick up 25mlU/ml of HCG. How much does the hormone get stronger each day?
Im so anxious now because now I think Im not pg because it didnt pick it up. :(
Can anyone help me with this situation?

Hello

I used Fortel when I was pregnant - it only showed a BFP, 4 days AFTER AF was due. Before then it kept on coming up negative. A blood test the same day as a BFN showed hcg of 256....!?

Based on my experience I personally wouldn't worry too much about a BFN at this point!

How can a pg test be so inaccurate? That's so bad that they advertise that they can pick the smallest amount of hcg levels and yet it doesnt. That's incredible that your HCG levels was 256 and it didnt even show up.
Has anyone else had the same thing happen to them with pg tests? I dont think the companys realise that you're heart actually breaks every time you see a negative!

Naomi, you only have to look through the ttc threads on this site to see just a small sample of the thousands and thousands of women who buy tests every month that promise early results only to get a BFN! The HPT companies want to make money. Simple as that. And they do a mighty fine job of it! Sometimes people do get an early result and sometimes they don't. There are even some people who NEVER get a BFP and eventually get a blood test to find out they are about 9 weeks pregnant!!

I'm with Clair - don't stress about an early BFN. The stress isn't doing you any good. Relax - wait a few days. The fact is - right now you either are pregnant, or you aren't. No amount of testing is going to make any difference. Hang in there...

Thanks cosmic, I see your point. It's not easy not stressing when you see that horrible BFN!! I know if have quite a few symptoms that are not usual for me to have. I have now got bloating, cramping still going on, nausea, tired, moody, backache and heavier breasts. I hope that the test was inaccurate and not true. I suppose only time will tell. :(
Also like I asked before what is the normal rate for the hCG levels to rise each day?

That Fortel test you are using is a new one, there is still another Fortel one on the market that measure the standard Hcg levels.
I used the one you tried, testing 5-7 before AF. Mine came up faintly positive at 5dpo, negative at 7dpo and positive 9dpo.All over the place! But the faint little line is now sleeping in his bassinet :p
HTH cheers Jen

I believe hCG levels are supposed to at least double every 48 hours.

Naomi, I know it is an anxious time, but draw something positive out of the waiting situation and that is you have symptons, and there is not that much longer to wait.

I got a very feint positive only 1 day b4 af was due and that was roughtly 12 dpo. Even to today (and I am 5wks 2 days pregnant), I am still getting feint positives, but I had my first blood test at 3 days after AF was due and my level was 289, so that confirmed my pregnancy although the urine test the doctor gave me at 1 day past AF was negative. So go figure.

I had strong strong positives last time, but then again I was carrying twins also. But I still truely believe each pregnancy is different, and what might have happened with your last pregnancy won't necessarily happen with this one.

Patience my dear, like I can talk.

Take care and good luck.

if a result is a bfn would it have a very feint line in the result window showing where the positive line would be? When I say feint, I mean you can see a very very feint pink line there kind of showing where the positive result would be but very feint. Definitely a line but very very feint. This is the discover one-step. I caved, and decided to give it a go, bit early I think because the discover one step says to test up to 5 days before missed af. I am 6 days before af

I am going to test Thursday anyway, but this test has got me thinking

hey littlepickle,

how long did you leave the test before the line came up? Sometimes you can get an evaporation line in the test window if you read the test after the recommended time (usually 10 minutes or so). If the line came up within those 10 minutes then it could actually be a positive. Maybe you should try again tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed!

Hi mim, thanks for your reply, The feint line came up after 4 minutes. The recommended time was 3 minutes so it was a minute over time. I am supposed to be waiting till Thursday to test so I might wait till thurs morning to do the second test as I dont want to waste too many tests

Little pickle, do it again, the feint line, doesn't matter a line is a line. Mine was exactly the same, very very feint and I am pregnant. Very confusing, as even mine came up after the desired 3 mins - 5mins (dependant on which test I did). With the 5min test it came up in a range of 5-7mins, so I was definitely confused. But here I am nearly 10 weeks pregnant. And the more I did, I gathered all of them could not have been evaporation lines regardless of how feint they were.

I think congratulations are in order. Well done!

Naomi, I would wait until you are closer to your af date. That way if you get a bfp it will show up nice and clear and there will hopefully be no doubt about it.

LP I would wait as well, but if there is a faint line that came up within the time limit then a line is a line and we can add you to the oct list soon.
Good luck girls

I used the Fortel pregnancy test on the day AF was due, and got a strong +ve, and not even with first morning urine.

I wasn't going to test until a couple more days had passed, but the fact that the smell of coffee after breakfast was making me feel ill clinched it, and I tested.

I'd hold off on testing. Apart from anything else (including the $$$ for HPTs), a certain percentage of early pregnancies fail before the end of the cycle, and you could be elated one minute and desolate the next.

Hi Shereejoy, Harrysmum and Aardvark, thanks for your replies.
I showed the test to dh who thinks that I am imagining things :( I will try again tomorrow morning
