Hi Guys,
JUst wondering what age did you guys take your bubs for swimming lessons? My bub loves he's bath time, so I figured I should join him up in a swimming school when he's 6 months. Is this too early for him? He does have a bit of senesitve skin, nappy rash and mild ecezma. Any adivce?
We started DD when she was 3 months. We smothered her in sorbelene cream in case of an allergy before putting her in for the first lesson. Although, she doesn't have eczema or allergies so someone who has more experience with this will help further!
Swimming lessons are great fun not only for bubs! I'm not sure which of us look forward to it more :)

DD started at about 6 or 7 months. We have had no issues with skin sensitivity after a swim. The earlier you can start the better :)

DD started swimming lessons when she was 6 months, she absolutely loved it, definitely a water baby! We took her out after 6 months as it was winter and she had a 3 month break and we have just started again and now she doesnt seem to like it as much! The teacher did say the older they get the more chance of them disliking it, so best to start them young. No experience with allergies or sensitivities though sorry, maybe you could take him in for 5 minutes before he starts lessons and see if there is any reaction?
We started DD at 6 months but we would take her to the pool before hand as she loved the water.
DD has eczema but as long as she has a shower and is dried properly she is fine.
You should see if there is a salt water pool near by, apparently they are a bit better then chlorine pools on the skin.

DS1 was 8 months when he started. We would have started him earlier but there is a 6 month rule and it seemed silly to start him part way through a term just before the big Christmas break.
DS2 was 15 months old. We needed to wait until we could get him into a class at the same time or before/after DS1's. He gets shocking eczema but I find the chlorine seems to help.

DS started at around 4.5 months (I think). He's loved it since day 1. Lots of public pools have a 6 month rule, but most private places allow swimming from 4 months.
You will need to check with the pools about their age limit, our 2 local pools you must be 6 months old.
Speak to your GP, as sensitive skin and eczema comes in so many degrees it's hard to give advice about, but washing is obviously really important. And if bubs has bad eczema you may need to try out a few different bathers too, as the chemicals and material can cause major irritation.
Personally we are waiting to DS is 2 to do classes, we take him to the pools and he loves it, but as he is going through his fussy stage at 15 months he likes it less (same with the bath), so we figured 2 was a good age, where he can enjoy the structure and learn. We also don't have a whole lot of money to pay for classes, I'm sure if we did he'd probably of started around 1.
