HI Tamara

It Craigs turn, Im hopeless, and so far, with the other 4, couldnt name them until he decided when they were approx 1 week old, lol.
So far, he has named them all except Laura, and I think he has done a great job, with after her, Ainsley, Callum and Charlotte.
So far he has come up with Elle for a girl (I like Rowan) he wants Craig for a boy, which I dont like, and its callums middle name (Callum William Mark Craig!!!!)

I think the name is the hardest decision in your life you ever make. I love classical names, obviously, so I like Bridgit, etc boy, Ive always wanted a Hamish, we are scottish, so I think it is fitting, and want to stay with a scottish name (laura and charlotte arent, but are still very old world).Ooh, I also lurve Bonnie for a girl.
But m sure it will change 100 times in the mean time

I agree with you mummy2beagain, naming a child is the hardest thing to do. My DH is dead sure we are having a girl so he wont decide on any boys names. but for a girl we have Ashliegh Makayla, for a boy i like Matthew Steven (my dh name is Steven). But knowing me it will change plenty of times yet.

We have been tossing alot of names around in the air and are pretty certain for the first name for our daughter, should we have one, but for a boys name, we have a million and one names written on the list and we still haven't decided on anything that we both remotely even like!..

I think we are really going to struggle to come up with a name that we both agree on. I have told DP a few names and he keeps saying "No".. and like wise.. So, we are in for a tough few months! *L*

boys: I love Marlo and Diego (pronounced jiago)
Girls: (not Brazilian) I love Layla, dp loves Lua (means moon in portuguese)

but things will probably most definetly change between now and when they will be needed

We have a few names on the list (secret) .. We are both lucky that we have similar name likes/dislikes .. We are very selective (or picky) and for this bub it is the same name list we had for Charlie, plus one new name .. I also look up the name meanings, spelling, make sure the name flows and actually write it down on paper .. Just my tip .. It is such a fun aspect of the pregnancy!

He is very picky.

We haven't, having a VERY hard time deciding. All the ones I like start with J...........Jennifer, Jessica, Jasmine, Justin, Joshua, LOL.
No J or B names allowed!!!! We already have the following initials in my family :

BJ
JG
JM
BJ
JB
BJ
MJ

So NO J's or B's are allowed, lmao. It makes it so hard though. I like Olivia, DH hates it. He likes Troy, I hate that. I want something that will match the other 3 so that when I call all of them, it doesn't sound so out of place..........."Jacob, Brooke, Matthew and Paige" just don't sound right, KWIM??

Dh and I have already picked a girls name we like, but are still working on a boys name.
We are keeping it a secret till it's born as well.
It's realy hard to get a name that you both like.

Actuly I realy liked the name Sailor for a girl (preg homones for shore here:rolleyes: ) but dh pointed out that it Rymes with our name so it sounded:barf:

teehehe Sailor and Taylor.

Does anyone know where I could find out what the popular names for 2005/2006 were? I'd like to not name my kid something that 3 other kids are in their class.

So far I have my heart set on Rose, hubby seems to think this one is ok. And Declan for a boy.

We'd also like to use family names somewhere along the line, like William and Patrick.

On a related topic, I asked my mother to give me family names to choose from and what does she give me? A list of every single name in the family - including my sister, nan and herself.  I wanted FAMILY names you silly goose! Names that are tradition and repeated in the family. She makes me laugh.

I don't want to choose a name that bub will have in common with 5 of her/his class mates (that's what happened to me), but DP insists on giving bub the name you want regardless of how common it is (there is some sense to that but I'm not buying it yet). Seeing as we can't agree on any names I'm not sure we'll have a name chosen before April :banghead: . I really don't want to have to settle on something that I don't love ..... testing times ahead !

BUT if you go to the Births deaths and marriages in your state, it should be listed.

I've had Ava picked out for 10+ years and now its everywhere  not fair. I also like Grace, Eve & Isobel (my grandsmothers name) but they are even more common .... I don't know what to do !!:banghead:

DP's grandmother is Edith (Edie for short) is that too old fashioned and daggy ??? Help please.

I like Grace too, but I have a friend whose daughter is Grace, and another friends daughter is Georgia Grace....plus it has that J sound, lol.

I do like Isobella/Isobelle. We both like Claire...just don't know what to use as a middle name. I think Claire Isobella has a nice ring to it though.

Kaz,

I am sure that by the time bubs has arrived you would have thought of a lovely name for him / her! DP & myself are still writing down names to the list and still haven't got anything decided. I think it will make it much easier when we find out the sex! Oh and I can't wait! DS was a suprise, as in we didn't know what sex he was until he was born, but with this one we want to find out so that we can buy colour appropriate stuff, or if its a boy just build on existing items that we have here. My son was named Blake Carter, because it was different. I chose the name Carter, because it was different. If DS had have been a girl I would have called him Alyssa Danielle. I still like that name but there are others that I like more now I think! SO it is still at the drawing board for us! Everytime I visit the list to add a name I find I am always removing a few names as well! *L*..

Edie is a diff name for a girl, but it reminds me of Edie Britt off Desperate Housewives! I used to work in childcare and there was a girl called "Eden" which was different.

But apart from that I can't help you anymore except suggest maybe going through some baby name books as well?

Cheers,

Jen.

My non pregnant internet name is Kieah.
My Besties 4 month old is Grace
My aunt (in her 60's) is Edith - yes sorry to old daggy for me

Hubby and I have a predicament with naming - he wants something thats 'normal in Japan' but I cant stand Japanese names - for me they are so ugly, especially the girls so sorry Kuta is a no no for me.

I like different names but they have to sound nice so Ryosuke (rio-skay), Hirokazu (hero-car-zoo) for boys are out and Tomomi (Tom-mo-me), keiko (kay-ko) are goner too. And they are the popular ones that done sound ridiculous in English... Eye, Me, Me Me, She ho and more.

So far it's Maya for a girl and Kai for a boy. I like them both Dh was good with Maya until his coworkers so kindly told me last week I couldnt have that name coz the kanji is too mysterious it means dark night. They okay-ed Kai with the kanji of ocean. Whatever they cant shut the hell up - Why do people have to be so negative about other peoples choices. Why cant you just say not for me???

Dh has to pick the kanji for the names and take it to a temple and check the number of strokes - there are lucky and unlucky combinations so apparently it's important what kanji you use - as well as just the meaning behind it. It also has to fit with your last name too. The government has o say in the stroke amount but they do on the kanji you choose. There are some kanji which are banned to be used in names.

I never thought of it like that really. Its just her name LOL
I also had a Japanese friend years ago called Chisako (I think that was the spelling).
LOL I guess I just don't read things into names. Although I did keep my DD's name short and easy to spell cos our surname is horrid ;) But even then some people can't pronounce it... her name is Erin and yet she gets Aron or Ellen a lot ;)

I did just find this though...

YUMI f Japanese
Composed of the Japanese elements yu "reason" and mi "beautiful".

Hi girls

I just wanted to say to everyone whos dp/dh turned there nose up at the baby names you like take heart - as My husband hated the name Roxanne the first time I said it ... a few months later I read it out again - and he made a 'eh' sound (so I put it on our maybe list) then a few weeks later was reading out our maybe list and he was like roxanne? and I was like 'yeh YOU picked that one ... good job I like that name .." then it must have grown on him as our little girls name is
roxanne darla belle LOL:laughing: so just be paitent is all I have to say to you guys :p

same here! I have to stop getting my heart set on a name because hubby doesn't like any of them!

Mine is the same, but then I just say "OK, you have something the size of a bowling ball come out of one of your orifices and you can pick the name"

I have a fairly unusual name so am definitely going for a classic name for our bub, preferably something that they won't get picked on for most of their childhood like I did.....! :o

Like Rowan Atkinson?

I think it's funny how some names remind you of certain people, like Melanie, I could never call my kid that becuase of some horrible girls at school called Melanie!!! (no offence to anyone!)

Just strange.... :o

Hollyhotlips...I am exactly the same, the name I couldnt use is Natasha (sorry) but there was this girl...and well, its just spoilt now. hehehehe its strange.

I dont know about the different or normal name thing as I had a kind of common name but not too bad. There was another girl with the same name in my class in high school and to make matters worse we were friends and our name is one of those ones that cant be shortened. So I would recommend that if you choose a common one make it one with various options. My fav has always been Elizabeth, there are like what 7 options or more.

One more thing sorry to mummy2beagain but I dont like Rowan for a girl because of the boys/girls name. I grew up with a boy named Renee and even now if I mention him in passing people say 'Renee's a girls name'. He hated it!!! Maybe a boy/girls name that is more common to a boy is not so embarrassing for a girl though. Just my opinion.

for sure! I was always Elizabeth when I was younger but now I am Liz or Lizzy to my friends. But there are SO many variations you can use as a nickname or use outright as their proper name. I'm glad I never got called Beth.

LOL Petal thats sneeky!

Holly I can't see the ridicule in the name Holly? I guess kids come up with anything for anyone, no matter what your name :o

Nup, the boy/girl thing doesnt worry me what so ever, I have a daughters Charli and Ainsley, both male names so obviously it doesnt worry me.
I grew up with a boy Jodie in my class as well as myself, and it didnt bother either of us....
Im not girly girl anyway, and my girls arent girly girly either, so its fitting here.... (not 1 dress in this house that gets worn unless I force it on them)!!!!

hahahah I like a no dress household myself!!! I was a little bossy boots of the group of neighbourhood boys. Always outside climbing trees and building cubby houses. (my dads a cabinetmaker) The best present he gave my brother and I was a saw!

But...I dont know what happened, I have been looking at all these cute japanese baby clothes and I can feel this tiny desire for a girl so I can dress her in cuteness. Oh dear.

Keeping stum (sp?) on that until I've told everyone about Bod then I will reveal all...! (and what an anticlimax that will be now!! )

I am gutted as Jack was on my boy's name shortlist but it was the most popular name last year, so think I'll have to scratch that one. Dont want the school teacher saying "Jack" and 10 boys put their hands up!!!
