Megan is 19 months and suffered from severe reflux, is currently on 20 mg losec a day (10 kgs) and 2 mls Zantac, had a nissen fundo 6 months ago, and it has stopped it totally!!!! Have they talked about surgery or is it not too bad?????

Archie is 20 months and stil has reflux, though since cutting right back on dairy proucts,. using soy milk and not using cheese or cream, his reflux has gotten SO much better. he is still on 10mg of Losec and if he eats too much of the list of foods he is intolerant to we give him a few mls of Maylanta at bed time.
Before we cut out a list of foods mainly dairy, his reflux seemed to be geting worse and worse and the dosage of Losec kept going up, Dr planned on sending Arch to the city to have an endoscopy and then go from there. Am thinking we wont bother with the endoscopy at this stage as he is getting so much better. Will try weaning him of the Losec in about 6 months time.
LOL this is an old thread, it should now state anyones kid over 4 with reflux!!!!
Yes we are one of the very few lucky ones who seems that we probably won't grow out of it.
Things are a lot better than they once were and we understand Parker a lot more.
I am still determined to find out why he still has it and if anything is causing it, but apart from that we are just going day by day.
Kiwee we are on losec 30mg a day still and although a fundo has been mentioned, we are avoiding it at this time because ON meds all his reflux side problems go away (FTT, Food refusal, infections, apnea) he still gets chest infections a bit and these turn nasty, but that has been worked probably more to a low immunity than his reflux. So as long as the meds keep working, I think we will stick with them.
Are you off meds totally now past fundo?
Oh and hi Amy and Nik!

Megans reflux was life threatening, she would vomit 2 mls of milk so no option, Still on meds until an endoscope shows no problems (bleeding ulcers etc), she has an underlying metabolic condition though. The fundo has mean't we can now feed gastrically, she has always been tube fed, so can't comment on her eating. I won't say the first few months after the fundo were easy, she would still gagg ALOT, but she also has slow bowel motility so that is another issue altogether, she would also get terrible wind that she couldn't pass, We would have to vent her stomach alot. But after a rocky start she is now fantastic. Prior to this we would be admitted every 2-3 weeks, with chronic vomitting to the point of Dehydration, since then...No admissions, so a huge success.
Probably with your son his problem would be nausea, he would still want o vomit but couldn't???
I fought surgery but now wish we had had it sooner...was worth the surgery!!!
Good luck!!!!!
