At the moment i'm listening to Dakota cry uncontrolably :crying: :banghead: She's never done this.. I've given her a bottle and now it's time to settle in for the night until tomorrow morning but she won't stop crying. We have tryed rocking her (which we have never needed to do), patting her, comforting her, bathing her, i've given her panadol.. i've tried everything!

I'm putting it down to constipation because she hasn't done her usual daily poo which is the first time ever.

Does anyone know how to settle constipation ?

:gloomy: Oh i hate hearing her cry like this.

The easiest way i've found to settle constipation in bubs is by giving them a little bit of brown sugar in warm water, you only need the tiniest bit, the molasses in the brown sugar brings it all on in a pretty short period of time, also a nice soak in a warm tub massaging the belly and another trick is to bring their legs right up to their stomach, bending bubs' knees, it helps to push it out.

Hope bubs and mum are happier soon

Thanx for replying Mylittleboy... I have tried all that you said except the brown sugar in water. The only problem is she doesn't like water :( she's burning up quite a temp from the crying. I think i may just ring that nurse on call 1300 number and see what they say.

Thanks again :hugs:

even the littlest bit will do good, even if she spits most of the water out, but swallows a little it will help, I hope it works, i've been through that before and it's horrid.

I can sujest 2 words , "Coloxyl Drops" they worked wonders with us
If she is formula feed try some extra water intake (like on its own) also the pushing of the legs like she rideing a bike helped us to .
Hope she is better today

She is a little better today abit grumpy though, still no poo's  She won't have water at all and isn't old enough to have any kind of juices.. she'll suck once on the teat then realise it's not formula then totally refuse to suck again. :banghead:

Is Coloxyl Drops suitable for a 4.5 month old ?

Coloxyl def OK for a bub that age. We went thru all that for quite some time with DS. It only stopped when we changed formula (not that I'm suggesting this!).

If this is the first time she's had trouble I wouldn't be doing anything too drastic. Her system may just be changing the way it does things.

Generally the health nurses will just say give water. The brown sugar in water is an old remedy that they discourage quite loudly (at least in our experience). The other thing you can do is try a glycerine suppository. This will get things moving immediately.

In our experience water didn't work, undiluted prune juice didn't work (and he was much younger that Dakota), coloxyl helped a little.

Hope she's feeling better soon!
