Hi Karen,

I've noticed my 9 month old is vomiting a bit lately, and it seems to be worse after eating dairy products. I've noticed it especially after yoghurt, also cream cheese. He has only had small amounts of cows milk in cooking so I'm not sure if this has been problematic or not. As well as the vomiting we've noticed he has been uncomfortable and gassy.

Could he be intolerant to dairy? Do we need to see a dietician or GP for advice or should we just cut it out and see what happens? Would he be ok to not have any dairy in his diet at this age?

He is still breastfeeding, he did have reflux as a younger bub and it seemed to be a lot better until now.

Thanks

Hi Kooglekat, it may be related to dairy intolerance but also may not be. You need to work out whether it is lactose intolerance or cows milk protein that is causing the problem and this should be diagnosed by your GP
If you are planning on eliminating dairy foods,it's best to see a dietitian to ensure a proper dairy free diet is followed and that appropriate dairy substitutes are used to ensure nutritional adequacy. It will depend on what his diagnosis of intolerance ends up being that will decide what are the best dairy alternatives that he can use in his diet. Hope this helps.
