Hi!

I'm expecting my first baby, and recently had to travel to Canada on business (...tough, I know!) ;)

When I requested a low-listeria-risk meal, I was rather stunned to find that it wasn't an option. The airlines claimed that they couldn't provide low-listeria-risk meals, because "there isn't an IATA special meal code for that". (Oddly, there are five different vegetarian special meal options among the 17 or so options they do have...)

I then contacted IATA to check whether this was the case, and also how anyone who thought it should be changed could get in touch with them to request that.

IATA responded that their reservations committee (RESCOM; rescom@iata.org ) is the appropriate address to send such concerns about "special service requirements".

So... if you think that low-listeria-risk meals should be available on airlines for pregnant women and all the other risk groups for listeria (eg. elderly persons, cancer and chemotherapy patients, transplant recipients, individuals with kidney or liver disease or on medications such as cortisone or prednisone, and other immune-suppressed individuals), please contact them and let them know! :)

Cheers
