Hi,

My 9 month old is still not eating solids and (I think) it is at the stage where it is affecting her sleeping.

She slept 7-9 hours a night until 5mo when she started waking wanting to feed several times a night. Now, she is waking every 30min - 1.5h and will not resettle without feeding.

She is not at all interested in purees - in fact won't eat anything off a spoon. She will take finger food, but she is still only really having "tastes" and isn't swallowing much of what she has. She is happy to put things in her mouth but once they are there, she doesn't like the taste/texture and spits them out.

We have tried supplimenting her breastfeeds with formula but she will not take a bottle, and we have not found one she likes that she will drink from a sipper cup.

Please help! At this rate I think I will still be breastfeeding her when she moves out of home .

Thanks for your time

Dear cjkh,
At 9 months of age your baby really needs to be increasing her solid intake before she misses that “window of opportunity” for introduction of solids
The baby is waking overnight because she is not getting enough food over day
You don’t need to go back to purees as it sounds like your baby is happy to do finger food and refuses a spoon
Try mashed/minced type textures or soft lumps that she can pick up herself and eat
When feeding herself, you couldalso try giving her extra as well from the spoon while also letting her self feed. This way she becomes more independent but you are also able to get more in.
Make sure feeding environment is stress free and fun and keep offering food before breastfeeds during day
There's no need to offer formula in your situation, you can continue breastfeeding and as the quantity of food increases she will naturally wean herself off breast
Patience and perserverance is all that is needed now . If there is no progress then have a chat with your MCHN for reassurance but I'm sure you and your baby will be just fine. Good luck!!
