View Full Version : Which name do you like best out of...
Christian (Chris)
Cameron (Cam)
Michael (Mike)
James (too common? Also our last name starts with S, would it be difficult to say?)
Our first baby (boy) is due in 1 week and I can't decide what to call him.
DH has been calling him Christian ever since we found out the sex at 22 wks, but I'm not quite sure about it. Does it make you think of religion?
I'd love to hear your opinions.
Thanks!

My two favourite are Christian and Cameron. I didn't think of religion regarding the name Christian.
Good luck with your impending birth. Hope everything goes well.

I like the name Christian. I'd tend not to use the shortened from, personally.
I don't think of religion when I think of someone called that, rather I think more of Fletcher Christian of the Mutiny on the Bounty.

Hi Mea,
We didn't have a name for our son when he was born (for some reason, we were both expecting a girl :o Whoops) so we needed to decide pretty quickly.
We both thought of names we liked, still couldn't decide so looked up the meaning of the names and it made the decision easy !
I don't think of religion when I hear the name Christian - I love that name.
Good luck with his special day !

I agree with the previous posts, I dont think of Religion when I hear the name Christian, it is a lovely name. I personally wouldnt shorten it to Chris, but thats not something you would really have a choice in as he gets older I guess.
I am not a big fan of Cameron though - not sure why
Michael is nice, but there are loads of Michaels. it is a classic though and something that would never go out of fashion

I like James, but I'm biased because it's my father's and brother's name. I also like that it's pretty flexible for shortening: Jim, Jimmy, Jamie in our family.
Christian as 2nd favorite.
I do think of religion when I hear "Christian" but that's because I am one so I think it's great if it causes a few people along the way to think about God.
I know a Cameron and he's a lovely blue eyed smart capable little lad and he has made the name very lovable for me.
I love the name Christian ... probably, like Rainbow, because I am one and it means a lot to me. I don't think of religion though ... more a kind, caring, happy and fun-filled life!
Have you looked at the name meanings? Cameron is "crooked nose", James is "supplanter", Christian is ... well, "christian" and Michael is "gift from God" ... now, I know which ones I would prefer purely by meaning, but I think that despite thier meanings they are all really great names.
OK ... Number 1 - Micheal ... classic, nice shortened (Mike, Mick, Mickey)
Number 2 - Christian ... a very "clean" sounding name - easy to say and call
Number 3 - James ... another classic and nice shortened versions (Jim, Jimmy, Jay, Jamie, Hymie)
Number 4 - Cameron ... has an almost regal and yet fun sound to it, just don't much like the meaning or short version "Cam"
Thanks so much for your replies. I still haven't quite made up my mind but it's great to get your comments.
Thanks for providing the meanings of the names Kyra. There is a large nose gene in the family, so maybe I should avoid Cameron :D
Cheers,
Mea
