Both my DS's have eczema, pretty mild until now, with flare ups.

Within the last month both my DS's have suddenly had a flare up around their eyes. Above and below the eye, it looks uncomfortable and they look like they are really tired because it is red.

This is really unusual as they have never really had it on their faces before.

DS1 has food allergies and DS2 doesn't, plus there as been no change in either of their diets.

We have been in two different states while this happened, DS1 has cleared now but DS2 is really bad at the moment. So it must be environmental irritant but I am stumped :banghead:

Just wondering if any had any suggestions on possible causes? We have been to the GP who suggested hydrocortisone cream of course  Or which creams etc you have been happy to use on delicate areas like eyes and faces?

Thanks :D

Hi Sarah!

Good to see you :)

I would be taking them to a dermatologist or allergy specialist.
Personally I wouldn't put any cream close around their eyes.

I have a perscription cream for Jades face when she breaks out. but even that says not to get near eyes.

If the rash is close to the eye, remember one rub and it's in the eye.

I hope you can get to the bottom of it soon.

Hi Tash, Good to see you too. I haven't been posting much, very slack.

We have an allergy specialist already, unfortunately. Which is for food allergy and I am pretty sure it isn't food. So it may be off to the dermotologist. It has to be something around us, which I am finding creepy.

I have never used any hydrocortisone on them at all. Always been able to clear things up with sorbolene and eliminating the cause. Matthews dryness around his eyes seemed to resolve itself in the end.

Thanks for the help :D

My Ds never had it around his eyes, until about three months ago, and my doctor gave me some cream that he can have around his eye. Best bet is to see your gp!
goodluck :fingerscrossed:

Thanks guys :D

We saw the GP Saturday morning. He thinks it is a localised allergic reaction as his eyes were also puffy and the rest of his face was clear. I tend to agree but don't know what the reaction was too  It is probably a plant he touched outside or a new cleaning product rather than a food.

Anyway he has had some antihistimine and some cream and it is improving but not gone yet. Hopefully he doesn't have another reaction like this.

I use Medihoney on my bub's arms, back of knees and face. It works really well and doesn't have harsh chemicals. Cortisone cream should be used with caution as it can weaken the skin with repeated use, especially the face near the eyes where skin is quite delicate and thin. I don't find sorbolene to be fast acting or effective enough for any dryness.
