View Full Version : When is the best time to start?
Just wondering what is the best age to begin the CC? I have heard so many different things that I'm not sure what to believe. My son is only 7 weeks old and I am thinking that perhaps that is too young, as I have been told that 4 months is about the time that babies learn to settle themselves. He sleeps pretty well at night, only really waking once for a feed, and that time depends on whatever time he has his last feed at night. My problem is his day sleeps. He's a chronic cat napper, would CC help this problem? Or do i just accept that he's only ever going to sleep for a max of 45 mins at a time?

7 weeks is still so young, it's VERY normal for them to still be catnapping at that age. I would wait a while before worrying about day sleeps, especially if nights are good.
I'm fairly sure that even experts that recommend CC don't recommend starting before 6 months. :)
My DD catnapped every sleep even when she self settled until she was about 4 months and started sleeping longer in the day. this was the time she also started moving around a lot more and burning off more energy. she still occasionally has a 45 min nap but majority are now 80 - 120 mins.
I think he is too little. I am curious to know why you call day cat napping a problem if he is sleeping well at night? Babies behaviour varies - I wouldnt want u to be stressing about your little man falling into the 'right' routine.
My 6 week old is the same, I spoke to a nurse last week and she said that babies need to be trained to sleep. She advised that after 30-45 min of sleep a baby may wake up and not know how to resettle. She said to try settling him back to sleep instead of taking it as "awake" time. I have been trying it and sometimes it works, others nothing seems to work. In total he sleeps about 12 and a half hours in a day and she said it is not enough, but have heard otherwise so a bit confused!

Hi,
He's only 7 weeks, and babies change their routines all the time, it's this little trick they have to lull us into a false sense of security
I think you'll find that his sleeping patterns will change a lot over the next year (or two) and what he does now will be completely different in a few months time. And if he's sleeping well at night and only waking for feeds, well sounds like you are both doing a great job
I have heard you cannot start CC until 6 months. Although my DD frustrating the hell out of me today. only 2 hour and 40 mins sleep for the day!! YAY :hair:
I dont want her going down for her big sleep at 5pm otherwise I will be up at 4 am!!
She is yawning like mad but still won't sleep. What else do I do??

DS was 12 months.. Before that we felt he was too young and we loved co-sleeping all together..
