Hi I'm having alot of issues with our 18month old she has bad Excema all over. our doctor has said that cloth nappies may help in the nappy area however I have no clue about cloth or MCNs can anyone tell me what I need and what brand do they come in all sizes lol I really have no clue where to start. Thank you for any help in where to start.

There are so many brands you will get lost in the confusion!! I did.

You can get AIO's = all in ones. Thats where there is a pocket and you stuff the absorbant pads inside.

AI2's = All in two's. Where you snap in the absorbant pad and can unsnap it for washing. If the shell isn't wet or pooed on you can just put another clean snap in soaker and reuse the shell.

they are your basic combinations.

There are OSFM = one size fits most. Which has snaps that you snap to adjust the size. Small, medium, or large. Some have 3 snaps others have 4 snaps. These grow with baby.

Or OSFB = One size fits best. Just one size, when baby grows you need to buy the next size up.

I personally like the snap rise version where you can use the same nappy as baby grows = OSFM. Its saves you money. Others will say it doesn't fit baby as well as the One size fits best = OSFB. Thats a load of hooey!!

I wouldnt use Baby Beehinds (BBH) OSFM as its very very wide in the crotch and the snaps aren't strong.

BBH OSFB ok sizing a bit small. So if you have a buddah baby then not so good, and if your baby grows out of one size you need to re buy more in the next size. And at almost $500 ish for a full time stash I don't know about you but  eeek!!!!

Itti bitti's are a very trim nappy I love how trim its in the crotch area. Still a bit $$$ but not too bad. Absorbant! They have three different styles. I like the Snap in version or AI2. You can snap out the inner soakers, wash it and just snap in a new one if the shell isn't dirty. They can be customised for more or less soakers. (less for newborn, more for older more heavy wetters).

For me my first stash was an ebay cheapy (my little ripples) I got 20 nappies for $77!! And they work. They are OSFM with the snaps. I just make the nappy bigger as my DD grows. I don't need to buy more. :D They are absorbant, they have the same booster as BBH nappies. You stuff the pocket with the absorbers and take them out to wash. They dry in half a day even in overcast weather. They are trimmer than BBH but not as trim at itti bitti's. They are generous in size so won't fit a newborn unless born at 4kgs and that does happen. If your baby is small I would buy a few itti bitti's in the stash for small babies.

You do need to prewash the nappies when you get them. Usually 5 washes before using. Some say you need to dry after each wash and others say you just need to wash them 5 times. My ebay cheapies were 5 washes in a row and dry at the end.

There is issy bear I didn't buy cause they looked a bit bulky in the crotch. I have heard multiple times over and over pea pods don't last and start to break down in a short space of time.

There are embroidered ones you can pay up to $32-$60 a nappy!!! eeeeeeek!!!

To help you take a look on www.youtube.com thats a big tip. Just type in some of the brands I mentioned. Im not sure if My little ripples is on there though. Try finding them on Facebook they are there. Don't be fooled into expensive means better. People swear by BBH's but they are one of the more expensive brands. Also look on www.productreview.com.au thats another tip.

As I said don't be fooled into expensive means best. I have a few BBH, itti bitti tutto's and GroVia (takes AGES to dry). But I love my ebay cheapies the best!!

I hope that helps. :hugs:

Or the a'kin/a'lchemy range? Ouchy itchy skin usually responds well to natural skin products. What sort of soap powder/liquid do you use to wash LO's clothes? My DP gets it from certain soap powders.

Cloth nappies hmmm I am not sure, however they are just part of a management plan for eczema and if it were me, I would be trying to find the trigger for the eczema (or do you already know it???). For my DS, his eczema was triggered by food allergies and once we sorted those out his eczema has been under control. Prior to that we had to do wet dressings, cotton clothing, tried all sorts of moisturisers, even cortisone. Sorry that might not be much help. I would think if the eczema is everywhere, you might not get much benefit from changing nappy. If it was just the nappy area, maybe it would be worth a try because it could be an allergy to something in the disposables....

Yes, I think that DD's skin has been much better with using cloth nappies. We use Bambooty MCN's. We use the sized nappies but they've also just brought out a OSFM nappy which I'm yet to try. I definately notice if I've had her in disposables for a couple of days, if we go away or something her skin definately flares up. She also has allergies to strawberries and some lotions. Also some washing powders, so if its washing powders triggering the eczema then MCN's wont help as they'll have been washed in it too. If you do buy some then I'd say dont buy too many to start with until you know if they're going to work and if the sizing or absorbancy will work for your bub.

If you have a bub with eczema or allergies I think bamboo flats, fitteds or prefolds might work for you as part of a treatment plan as they are all natural fibres. You will need a cover, but you can use wool or fleece covers if the PUL ones aren't breathable enough for your baby's sensitive skin.

I made my own prefolds from organic bamboo double terry (from the Bamboo Fabric Store) which work great with a snappi and cover. I have also recently bought some gorgeous soft bamboo flats and a prefold to try from Bumboo, they are sooooo soft and absorbent. I got them 30% off in the recent cloth nappy hunt! Baby Beehinds bamboo fitteds are great, they are OSFM (one size fits most) as u can fold them down at the front for smaller bubs. I have a Kissaluvs wool cover which is fantastic, or if u can knit u could make ur own very cheaply. U can even make ur own microfleece liners if u have trouble with the wetness against bub's skin.

I wouldn't invest too much in a lot of different MCNs as u'd probably be better starting with something basic (and not too expensive) and all natural fibres. Then see how u go from there.
