My DS is 7mths old & loves his food but I'm just not sure how much I should be giving him when it comes to solids & also when I should start cutting out bottle feeds. He is currently breast fed at approx 6am & 6pm, has formula feeds at 11am & 3pm. He has approx 3-4cubes of purees at 7am, noon & 5pm. Any advice would be helpful. TIA.

HI Lilipop You are pretty rightwhen it comes to milk either breast or formula. At 7 months of age your baby needs about 4 feeds per day with each feed 250ml. As you increase the texture and quantity of solid food your baby will not want as much milk and you may be decreasing the number of feeds. Let your baby guide you.You need to be increasing the texture and variety of the foods offered. So upgrade to mashed, minced and foods with soft lumps. it's best to serve food seperately rather than puree together for individual flavours. You could even work up to serving 2-3 different foods on a plate like meat and 2 vegetables ( serve size approx 2 tablespoons) . Cereals like oat and wheat based ones are fine , bread is also approriate and you could introduce soft fruits sliced like bananas and soft cooked vegetables and finely chopped/minced meats as well as custard and yoghourt. Gradually keep increasing the texture to small soft lumps and graduate to slightly larger pieces as toleratedover the next few months
