Hi Karen

My DS will be 4 months on Monday and he's always been a big hungry boy! :)

He still seems satisfied with being exclusively BF but is showing signs that he might be starting to get interested in other foods.

He has fairly good head control so physically he seems ready but I don't want to rush it. A friend gave me a gift where you get put solid food in this small net and the child can experience the taste but not ingest too much. Would this me a good way to start?

I feel very confused with all of the conflicting advice out there at the moment.

Any advice is appreciated :)

Thank you.

Hi Mumtoeli I haven't used the net style of feeding . I'll have to do some research on that! Every baby is different and even though the recommendation for introducing solids sits around 6 months, there are more recent guidelines suggesting that solids be introduced between 4 - 6 months to reduce the risk of allergy. I would have a chat with your maternal health nurse next time you have your baby weighed but if you were going to start then the general feeding guidelins are to start with a small spoon of an iron fortified cereal followed by pureed fruit and vegetables each offered seperately with a 2-3 day break in between
