Hey there,

I have a 21-month-old who has been underweight since about 2 months. We've been through all the rigamarole and are now at a point where the healthcare professionals are not concerned but conceed to our monthly weigh-ins.

I was advised to give her a high-fat diet so she eats chicken and potato nuggets, egg, etc but she only eats a little of each and I'm concerned that she doesn't get enough vegetables so I have tried to dress up broccoli and she seems to now be avoiding all things green.

What are some good, healthy meals for toddlers?

Thanks,
MummyChan

Dear Mummy Chan
Toddlers have a tendency to assert themselves when it comes to food especially if they are getting some attention!! I know it is always a concern when your baby is a fussy eater. You may find it helpful to offer foods on a platter in the centre of the table and let your toddler select her own foods. Children tend to copy others as well so if there is another sibling or another little friend who can eat with your child that may help as well. As far a s fat in the diet, i would recommend that you offer healthy fats such as avocadoes, foods cooked in olive oil, nut pastes rather than too many deep fried foods or pastries etc. There are some fabulous resources like the CSIRO wellbeing plan for kids as well as great websites with delicious recipes. Good luck!!
