Hi ladies, my son is 7 months old and very very difficult to entertain. He's just started crawling around but is obviously drawn to everything he cannot touch, it doesnt matter how many toys i put out, they are not interesting to him after a few minutes. He is fairly confined because he hasnt mastered and isnt really keen to master crawling on the floor boards just yet. Im suppose to be going back to school ( from home) but i have no idea how im going to get anything done since he cannot seem to entertain himself. He tires of his walker in about 10 minutes which suits me from what ive heard about them lately, he doesnt like tv, ive tried making shakers, water bottles with feathers and rice, he doesnt like bubbles, he has blocks and rings and links and an interactive learning puppy and books....after 5 minutes they are boring to him. Ive tried for ages to get him to concerntrate on one thing at a time to no avail. Im running out of ideas

You sound like you're doing a great job but remember - He's 7 months old! He is still a baby. He wouldn't know what a toy was, its just an object, that feels hard/soft/fuzzy/noisey etc etc. I actually think a 5 min attention span is pretty great for 1 toy. I would be expecting him to engage properly with toys more around 1 y.o. DD at that age just preferred to pull DVD's out of rack etc.

Could he be over stimulated? Maybe give him one toy at a time? I also think he is too young to expect much more. There is so much in the world for him to explore!

Well thats good to know, everyone kept telling me he has a short attention span for his age. Its just hard to keep his mittens of my books  lol. Yeah ive tried giving him one thing at a time but it doesnt work, theres always something else to catch his eye. I think its a good thing really, my little explorer. Just means im gonna be tearing my hair out come assessment time lol. I really was enjoying his hour and a half sleep until a couple of weeks ago, now i only get two 45 naps. I didnt think it was possible to have less time i already struggle to shower and change out of my pj's i have no idea how mums work i am in awe !
Why don't you try your local Gymbaroo as they gave me ideas for baby play and songs and body rhymes every week.
Certainly the best thing I ever did!
I do school from home too and have done so since DS was 6 months. The best thing you can do is let him find ways to entertain himself. Put a few toys around him, but also some things away from him, this gives him an incentive to move around. Babies aren't always interested in toys either, they will be attracted to whatever they like, so let him just explore. As for studying, my suggestion is to do your most difficult stuff at night time, any typing or writing or listening during nap time, use your bubs calm or preoccupied times to do reading, like meals or he's happiest times of the day. I know it seems like a daunting task, but you can do it, you just need to be super organized, stay ahead of assessments (I try 2-4 weeks ahead when I can in case all sickness and fussy periods) and have reminders and revision (if needed) up all around the house to keep you motivated.
Good luck!!!
