So I've been doing a HELL of a lot of research and wanted to change DD2 who is 26mths over to MCNs as well as buying a stash for bub when she arrives. I had thought I'd narrowed it down and found a friend was selling some CGR and BBH magicalls. They were SO BULKY on my dd2 she cried and wouldn't go near them! It's not the bum part I'm worried about it's the width in-between her legs! She is extremely petite and already has problems with her feet rolling in so we have her in proper fitted Clarks and have been told after she is TT for 6mths she'll have to see a podiatrist. SO! what am I going to do? Should I forget about changing her over to cloth? What brands are the smallest in width? She is 11kg. What about a new born? Will I be facing this same problem? I was also hoping for some of the nicer patterns and a pocket nappy. Any help????

Itti Bitti are the brand recommended for tiny tots. As for newborns, I've often read suggestions that prefolds are preferable to MCNs. (I discovered MCNs when my youngest was 4mo, so didn't go through the newborn stage with her. Prior to that I was using terry flats.)

You'll find it is going to be very very hard to change any toddler over to cloth. Cloth nappies will always be bulkier than disposables. Even the most slim fitted ones.
You can try the Itti Bitti Tutto as it is an OSFM that can be used on newborns and on older kids.
Other than that the Bonnibuns workhorse nappies are very trim and so are the Cushie Tushies. Both brands provide OSFM's.
Baby Beehinds has the "petite" range, but they don't come in an OSFM. The petites are sized, so you need to buy smalls for newborn, large for older kids. Yet they are still trim especially in the crotch.
I have a near new large Baby Beehinds Petite lying here that doesn't fit my son as he is very tall and chunky. You're welcome to try it out. I think it might be a good nappy for your 26 month old. Just pay postage and the nappy is yours.

P.S. The magicalls I wouldn't even use on my 17kg weighing 20 month old son! They are indeed very bulky and do NOT fit under any clothes.

CGRs are a big nappy. My Ds was about 9 months when we converted to cloth and I had to buy him sized pockets because he has always been a runty kid. But then DD (who is 10 weeks) seems to be far more runty than DS (she is only just over 4kg) and the OSFM pockets I thought would be ok leak like nobodies business, sadly. The only nappy I am finding that fits well are the small AIO bambooty at the moment... and I have been recommended to try the babybeehind petite as well ;)

Bonnibuns are the trimmest nappy in my stash, also the itti Bittis are trim, but my Tuttos kept leaking out the top so I sold them off

PM me your address and I'll send it to you.
CGR's.... They are expensive and definitely not a workhorse nappy. Also I just received my custom large CGR and it doesn't for DS!!! :crying: I paid $50,- for it!!!!
He's just too tall.
You might also want to think about what closure you want. There's the Velcro closure and snaps. Then you have front snaps, side snaps and hippy snaps.
Velcro. Pro's: Easy to do up. Pretty much like a disposable. Cons: Some bubs are very smart and will effortlessly undo the Velcro. I use Velcro on DS when he's in daycare and also when using them under pants, so he cant get to the Velcro.
Front snaps have the same problem. Trickier and less adjustable, but easy to undo for little fingers.
Sidesnap Pro's: Is harder to open for little ones. Cons: More fiddly to close for the parents.
Hippysnap is even harder to open and close.
I have Bumgenius as my workhorse nappy and you can get them in snaps as well as Velcro. Itti Bitti's are ok, but the Tutto doesn't fit my tall boy.
Bonnibuns are available in snaps only.
I buy my Bumgenius nappies in the US as they are nearly half the price as here in Australia. I can get them for $22,- each versus the $38,- here.
Bumgenius is a very trim fitting OSFM nappy and that's why it is my main workhorse nappy. It fits under all DS's clothes.
I have 56 Bumgenius's both snaps and Velcro.
My stash excists out of 130+ nappies. If you ever want to know something else about MCN's, feel free to PM me :)
Itty bitty thats the way to go if your looking for a trim nappy I was shocked to see that they were so trim. Doesn't matter if you use itty bitty AIO SnapIO or AI2. They are all trim. I personally like itty bitty tutto's the AI2 you can snap in the inserts and unsnap to wash and dry them. If the shell isn't wet or pooed on you can get away with just putting in another insert. They take about a day on a clothes horse on the balacony in overcast weather with wind to dry. Very absorbent. Its a smallish size nappy to me so Im sure this would fit a newborn.
Good luck.
