I had my daughter 2.5 weeks ago and I am having trouble remembering to eat. I barely have an appetite all day so sometimes it slips my mind and other times I'd rather sleep than eat. I know that a healthy diet is just as important now than when I was pregnant, I certainly don't want it to start affecting my milk production. I put on 10kg during my pregnancy but have already lost 12kg, and I haven't even started exercising yet. I know it's not a good thing so I was just wondering if anyone had any tips for remembering/prioritising to eat a healthy diet. Thanks :-)

Hi Mum2Ruby

I was exactly the same! Your priorities have definately changed and there are so many things going around in your head at the moment!

My mum and husband were a huge help here for me by making me food all the time and making sure I ate it! Don't worry, it'll soon pass as you will eventually gain your appetite back. I'm hungrier now than I was when I was pregnant! Breastfeeding does take it out of you so try and even have some nuts/yogurt/fruit on hand for quick snacks throughout the day and remember to drinks LOTS of water ALL the time! You'll feel instantly better.

Congratulations on your new bub, it sounds like you are doing a great job!

Keep up the good work but don't forget to take care of yourself as well. Happy/healthy mum=happy/healthy bub!

Take care :goodvibes:

I was the same.

Buy a big box of carmens muesli bars - the oats are great for your milk and they make a good snack or quick breakfast. Or the packets of oats you can zap in the microwave.

Also making batches of soups and meals to freeze are good.

And I agree water and lots of fluids.

Could you try eating every time you feed bub. I could easily eat a pack of Tim tams when i was feeding bub :) or a healthier option you could make a nice sandwhich before bub is due to feed then sit down and eat that. Also have lots of snacks in the cupboard that you can eat through out the day. If you are really tired maybe try taking a berocca during the day to give you a bit of a pick me up

I used to get up first thing in the morning and pack myself a lunch when I was doing my older boys and DF's. That way it was packed in the fridge, cut up fruit snacks etc and I could grab it quickly. I found I liked eating when bub was feeding most as thats time when you cant do anything else anyway so this made it easy... Also bub wont necessarily wait for that next feed so you can prepare something so this made it quick with crankys bub.

Hey mum2Ruby, I was the same after DS2 was born, and am going to do Lite N Easy after this baby is born because it looks so convenient (not to mention I need to lose the baby weight). Would that be of interest to you? The meals are all ready and delivered to your door :)

My DS is 7 mo and I'm still crap at remembering to eat! Things I have found helpful is having a big bowl of fruit salad in the fridge, snacking on muesli bars and making bliss balls and muffins (although 2.5 weeks in I doubt you have time for cooking).

Muesli and yoghurt or porridge is a very healthy snack or breakfast. You can also boil eggs and keep them in the fridge.

Hommus or dip is good too. Crumpets. Rice cakes.

I'm waiting for her to fall asleep so I can grab lunch but I really like the idea of making a packed lunch so I'm definately going to try that out. I'm more likely to eat healthy if I've prepacked rather than making something quickly. How much does lite and easy cost? Can i just do breakfast and lunch?

You can just do breakfast and lunch and they have 3 different calorie options. You can do 1200, 1500 or 1800 calories and you can choose 5 or 7 days.

I used to leave food around the house in spots where i would usually feed DD. So when I fed her I could easily snack on something myself. Crackers, biscuits, fruit ...

I also found that I lost far more weight when BFing that I expected to so I had to eat at least every time I fed her and would make sure I had some toast before I went to bed too to get me through the night.

Basically I had food in every room of the house!

Lemonhead you should also check out Gourmet Dinner Service - they have a diet range and deliver to your door. V v yummy.
