View Full Version : What is the best electric brest pump?
Hi:wave:
I will hopefully be breast feeding, and for most of the time it will be straight from the breast however on the rare occasion when we go out without bub or I have to leave him/her with Nan and Grandpa I would obviously like to express.
What is the best electric brest pump and what type of bottles / teets etc as I have heard that if you use an everyday one , and your baby loves the breast, that sometimes they wont take a bottle.
Are there any recommended brands for these too?:fingerscrossed:
hi caithi,
if you are only going to express occasionally you may find a hand pump or even just hand expressing could work well.
considering that everyone has different breasts and nipples it's probably an individual thing. i found the avent manual pump useless, just didn't seem to work for me, but others love it. i eventually came across the pump in style traveller from medela, this is a pretty high end electric pump and i got it off a friend so i didn't have such a huge outlay for the pretty minimal expressing i ended up doing:rolleyes: .
as for bottles and teats i would say check out your own nipples and try to find something that is a similar shape, apparently the longer teats are better as the human nipple stretches right to the back of the bubs mouth while feeding, a lot of bottle nipples are being made to be stretch-y now too.
sometimes a baby will get used to breastfeeding and not want a bottle, and introducing a bottle can also disrupt breastfeeding in some cases. it's best to wait until bubs is feeding well at the breast before introducing a bottle, about 6wks would be a good age prolly.

OMG  I never knew this! Wow!
OK so not too stretchy and at around 6 weeks is ok if I need to. I did see that Medela one and thought it looked good but wasnt sure.
THANKS for your help! Its really appreciated.:hugs:

Hi
Ive been hiring a medela from ABA. I have a manual one which is good for normal pumping but the electric is better for the long hardcore pumping. The use of the pump depends on your requirements and IMO its best not to get yourself into a mindset about breastfeeding and whens appropriate to use it. I thought it would be easy to feed and express. My family all have done it with ease however I havent been so lucky. Im expressing to increase my milk supply......
Good luck on your investigations
