View Full Version : Toilet Training!
Just a few questions.
How are you or did you go about it, toilet or potty etc?
Do you just start at home and then move up to when you are out too?
How long did it take?
How old was your child?
Did they show a lot of interest before you started?
Ok think that's about it.
Thanks.:)

Hi
Well here goes
I tried when I thought she was ready it turned into a big mistake and she got scared - she had an accident and pooh went everywhere and then she was cared for about a month.
Then I found my saviour the book " The Pockets Idiot's guide to Potty Training Problems" it has so much info in it for when to do it, how to start, what problems etc etc . After I read the book it took my DD all of two weeks alot of people say they just click which could be true but it could be the work we put in together after reading the book. My dd was 2 and 2 months which is young I thought, but she is done and we now also have dry nights I am too scared to take this big step so I let her sleep in pull ups and some nights she has been getting me up to take her to the Toit (as she calls it).
I think I got your questions mixed up but yes we did it at home so she just had undies on which worked alot better than pull ups as she could feel she was wet and didn't like it at all. She was showing interest you could say where does the wee and pooh go and she would say in the toit not in nappy so that was another reason to know to start. She now just tells you or when I ask if she needs to go she says yes or no, we have a few accidents when playing gets a bit too much fun and she holds on that little bit too long but this would happen very rarely - not once this week. Good luck you will be so proud of them when they are done I am, we tell everyone how she is a big girl now and wears undies. Oh that was another step letting her pick her undies and making a big fuss of them. :fingerscrossed: for you it is a bit tiring at first but now it is unreal!
Let me know if you have any questions hope this helps:)
How are you or did you go about it, toilet or potty etc?
Potty, he moved to the toilet himself, then not long later started to stand up to wee. Still haven't got poos worked out, does them in the nappy when he goes to bed :banghead: . We put DS1 into undies and said no more nappies.
Do you just start at home and then move up to when you are out too?
Started at home, had childcare 2 days later which was good (a day for me without worrying if he was weeing on the floor  ) 5 days later, we had to go out for the whole day (Grandmums funeral - a friend look after him while we were at the service) he had been going so well, that we didn't want to put him in nappies again. He held on all day, until we put him on the potty
How long did it take?
Started 23 July, only wears nappies at night, and still trying to get him to poo in the toilet
How old was your child?
Turn 3 in august
Did they show a lot of interest before you started?
No, but his nappy rash was becoming really bad and I knew it was just a case of giving him a reason
HTHs
Thanks for your responses, very helpful!
I am definately going to get that book.:D
We've had the potty for ages and have been talking about wee and poo and the rest for a while. The other day when we were getting into the shower he decided to wee in a cup he plays with in the shower. So I made a big deal out of it and he thought it was great. I haven't pushed it since then but this afternoon he asked to have his nappy off and went over and did a wee on the potty with no prompting at all. He did 3 more after this. So toilet training it is for us!
I just thought it might be a bit early, he's only 26 months but I guess if he wants to he wants to.
Thanks again.
That's excellent Tickle, I am hoping DS2 will be like that :fingerscrossed: Something else that help was having a potty book they can read, DS1 love them!! And if you and DS like Bear in the Big Blue house, he also has a DVD on potty training and growing up..just a couple of hints. Sounds like your DS is definitely on his way to be TT :D

My DD1 was 2 yrs 2 months and i started at about 18 months having the potty out etc. She hated the potty, we bought her a new one as she screamed and refused the 1st. So i took her shopping to buy the new one.
So, at the 2.2 yrs old she started going to the potty, then about a week later she wanted to use the toilet.
She even did it at Daycare before i had a chance to tell the staff, i did not think she would do it. Did have probs with poos for about a week, would not go.
It took us about 1 to 2 months before she was fine, we still have accidents now and again. But that is due to her holding it in far too long.
She wears undies at night, cause she would get up at nightime and still want to go to the toilet and not in her nappy.
Good luck with it all...
And if you and DS like Bear in the Big Blue house, he also has a DVD on potty training and growing up..just a couple of hints.
Can i ask where you got the DVD from? :)
Can i ask where you got the DVD from? :)
I think K-Mart, but I have seen it in coles and the abc shops, its called "Potty Time with Bear", there are 3 episodes, one focusing on TT, the other two about practice and indepence. It is the usual fun of bear and my DS1 loves it.
Sounds great, must have a look today!
Thanks for the info.
Congrats, you have 1000 posts Karen!:smiliedance:
*bows* Thanks Tickle, didn't think anyone would notice:o

How old was your child?3yrs 3mths
Did they show a lot of interest before you started?None at all, but he was too big for cloth and disposables, so I had to do something.
