if you had a docs appointment id wait till then (if it was within say 1-3hrs)
if not id call them and see if you could get in earlier

try a washer on his forhead and limbs too to bring it down - not cold water though......and undress him a bit. Keep taking his temp too. :hugs: He'll be fine.....

Try some Panadol, take some of his clothes off, this usually brings down the temp a bit. If it keeps going up then ring the Dr's and see if you can get in any faster.

:fingerscrossed: :fingerscrossed: that he is ok.:fingerscrossed: :fingerscrossed:

The doctor said to me to not really be too concerned unless it goes over 39 degrees. I'd undress him and give him some panadol.

Sometimes well babies get temps even though they are well. He might have been overheating a bit if he was slightly overdressed.

I agree with the others though, it's always good to get these things checked out.

Have you taken some of bubs clothes off and given him panadol? If it's not bringing his temp down after about 15 - 20mins I'd go straight to the drs and tell them that panadol is not helping him, they will get someone to see him pretty fast. I don't get too stressed about temps with my kids, as long as panadol brings them down, both my kids get temps in the low 40's if they are sick but panadol always works.

Good luck at the drs, hope it's nothing serious :)

Hope things are ok.
I was told by hospital that when a fever hits to give panadaol and neaurofen together, panadol every 4 hrs and kids neaurofen every 6-8 if needed.
Also, give lots of fluid any way you can. Use a syringe if need be or icy poles.
Don't wash bub down in cold water, use luke warm cloths to sponge down and keep them stripped of clothing.
Try not to hug them too closely as they will get hotter from your body heat.
A fan can help too if you have one.

Give a lukewarm bath with 1/4 cup of vinegar and I guarantee it will bring the temp down by a least 2 degrees within 5 mins!;)

Sounds silly I know - but it does work!

I dont generally give DS panadol till 38.5 if hes happy enough (earlier if not - he gets temps regularly up in the 40's). Baby nurofen is also excellent (I find it works better than panadol for DS). If you are going to the Dr soon though it may pay to leave it otherwise the Dr has no temp to look at if the temp is brought down. Poor darlin' probably has a little infection in the skin of the tooth is teething. DS gets this too. Lasts a couple of days or so.

HI ladies,

Thank you all so so much for your help and advice. Took him to Drs early and they checked him out. He has high temp of 38.5 but Dr said all the same that you all said. Nurofen and plenty of fluids. His ear is a little red and his throat so possibly an infection but he said to watcho over the next few days and if he gets worse or temp stays high then take him back in.

I just feel so helpless all he wants is to be cuddled which I am doing. Its not like him to be like this. My poor little man.

Thanks again, its so nice to know you have bubhub for help!

You guys are the best :hugs:

Aww poor little munchkin :hugs: mine is the same at the moment.
On Sunday he spiked a fever of 38.5 was miserable and very cuddly and sooky and he also screamed constantly :( Panadol helped bring the fever down and he's lost the temp but the other behaviour is still the same. My ds is getting his molars cause i just noticed he's cramming his fists and hands into his mouth. Glad he's ok and it's not anything serious! lots of love and cuddles for the poor little love.

Glad to hear there's not much to worry about (apart from the reddish ear to keep your eye on!).

I had a freak out when DD was just over 6-months-old...her temp just kept rising and rising, despite all my efforts to bring it down. When it got to 40 degrees, I called the hospital to ask them (it was late at night). They wouldn't give me any advice over the phone, so when it rose to 41 degrees an hour later, we went in.

By the time they say her, it had risen to 42 and she was REALLY tired and therefore cranky. They gave her nurofen, and tested her urine...but she didn't have any bladder infections or anything. She was pretty much right after they gave her nurofen (I didn't even know Childrens nurofen existed).

Now, if she EVER has some sort of pain problem, I give her nurofen. Panadol doesn't seem to work for her at all...which sounds reasonable, because it doesn't do a damn thing for me either!
