I bought a few different styles and types of nappies, covers and inserts, then worked out what worked and what didn't from there.
If you go back through the nappy threads you'll find a massive amount of info and tonnes of links. Have a read through and go from there!

so..if i did end up goin cloth, how many would i need?
If you wanted to use cloth fulltime I would start with 24 nappies.
what would i need to get?
That depends on what type of nappy you wanted to use, check out the following sites which will get you up to date with what's out there:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ozclothnappies/
http://www.modernnappies.org/
http://www.allaboutnappies.com/understanding.php this is my favourite site for terminology but some people prefer other sites;)
And this one I will throw in for luck (it has different flat nappy folds):
http://www.thenappylady.co.uk/Advice/Instructions.asp?InstructionID=2
As you will see from those sites there are all different types of nappies out there:
Flats (like you used last time).
AIO's
Fitted's
Pockets etc etc etc.
what ones best for night times?
Well for nights you are better off going for a really absorbant fabric like hemp or bamboo so depending on which style nappy you decide to go for depends on what is going to be the best nappy.
As you have probably read on here before different nappies suit different people. Some people might find pocket nappies great other's may find them horrible. You are better off ordering a few different types (trial packs) and seeing which one you prefer.
how much would it cost since i live in WA?
The nappies can all be ordered online so it dosn't matter where you live;)
Just to get you started also here are a few nappy stores (there are many more though):
http://www.nurturenappies.com.au/
http://www.theweewuns.au.com/
http://www.babybeehinds.com.au/
http://www.eenee.com.au/
http://www.greenkids.com.au/
http://www.cherubskiss.com/
Now that should keep you busy for a while:p

Yeah do your research - there is so much out there.
All the best with it!
I started my first child in flats and it was hard! MCN is so easy really.
