Hello!
Hannah has been having bad excema. If I use the cortisone cream it clears up, but then starts again 2 days after I stop.
I really do suspect that its dairy (formula, milk, etc) and I want to try something else. I bought soy milk (boxed) to try, but a few moms have said I should rather use rice milk.
Does anyone have any suggestions, or what the difference is?
She is 18 months and does eat nicely, but shes a late teether so sometimes just picks at her food when her teeth are coming through, and also she will only go to sleep if she has a bottle with milk, so I want to find out whether soy or rice milk is better!
Thanks
:)
If it's because you think she reacts to dairy, then I'd use rice milk, as the findings are around 50% of those who react to dairy, also react to soy.
We use rice milk, he hated it for the first week, loves it to death now LOL
The nicest tasting one is Vitasoy, in all honesty, soy milk tastes pretty gross anyway.
We are also very very careful with soy, most soy is genetically modified, which is a personal issue for us, so we avoid soy on moral ground now too ;)

I would try the rice milk as soy has gluten in it which could be a cause.
Rice milk isn't too bad TBH

My DD is almost 18 months and has a dairy, egg and nut allergy. She suffered with eczema as a bub.
Since 8 months she's been on Neocate formula.
I've been using rice milk for her breakfast cereal and once she turns two I will put her on rice milk.
Apparently there isn't enough nutrients in ticemilk for bubs to be on it as their milk until they turn two. But I'm not keen on soy milk so I'll just wait till she turns 2 to put her on rice milk for her milk feed.
Hope that helps :)

I'd try goats milk first. Rice milk doesn't really have the nutrition requirements for children. Soy milk contains too much estrogen and dairy sufferers have soy allergies as well in some cases. I have almond milk, but I make it raw from scratch as by doing that it contains the most amount of nutrients it can including vitamin A, E and calcium. (most ppl with nut allergies can actually have almonds because theyre actually a fruit but if it's processed on in a nut factory it's another story) By making it myself it doesn't contain sugar like store bought almond, rice, oat and soy do not to mention when they're heated you loose valuable nutrients. My girls love almond milk, it's just naturally sweetened with a few vanilla beans. See how you go with eliminating dairy but it could be other common allergens like eggs or wheat. It's not a cure but I know a friend who found he cured his little boys BAD exema with prawns!! How very weird!!! Skin conditions are a sign of wheat/gluten intolerance.

My DD has tested a strong intolerance to dairy, and a middle of the range intolerance to soy, so at the moment she's having oat milk (so we can test her for a gluten intolerance) but usually I give her rice milk (she also tested a middle of the range intolerance to rice too - but not sure if that equates to one in milk form).

Drat!! I shouldve posted this before I went to the shops today.....
Ok, thank you all.
I'll try the rice milk.
Will she need extra vitamins, calcium, etc because the normal formula is fortified with all those things, etc in it which I'm sure rice milk won't?!

Just try up her intake of other calcium foods like greens, broccoli etc extra vitamins can't hurt, more ppl have died from taking prescription medication than vitamins.

It's done to taste and the less water the creamier.
You'll need:
Square of muslin wrap (good way to use up the old faded ones)
Deep bowl
Blender (or Thermomix)
1/2 cup almonds, it's a personal choice but these really should be organic or at least pesticide free
900mls cold water
Step 1. Soak almonds over nite or 6-8hrs (helps with digestion)
Step 2. Process 500mls of water and the hlf cup almonds in processor for a good 30sec-1min on highest setting.
Step 3. Pour entire contents into a muslin wrap with the bowl catching the fluids
SQUUUUEEEEEEZZZEEE
repeat step 2&3 with 400mls water
SQUUEEEEEEZZEE
add vanilla bean and drink up! As I said the less water the more creamier but also a stronger taste. You can also add a date to the processing process for added sweetness. Tastes YUM warmed up to 42 degrees (keep it under to not loose nutrients)
:)
Our pead had us on rice milk from 12 months, if you are varying their diet, it's really not a huge deal.
He wouldn't put him on it prior to 12 months, but anything over he was fine with.
