View Full Version : Old Wives Tale?
Whats your opinion?
Yesterday one of the mothers at mothers group was saying how brushing your babies hair makes it grow faster cause it stimulates the folicles.
I have to say since I've been brushing her hair after a bath etc - It does seem to be getting a bit longer & thiicker recently (maybe its just her age lol) - Old wives tale or is there something in it?

hair dressers could probably answer this - but I get sucked in to old wives tales too.....sometimes I think they are only coincidence though

I hadn't been brushing Mia's hair cos she never used to like it. And she didnt have much hair. I tried again a few weeks ago and she liked it..... and... her hair has grown heaps since  maybe its just in my head though LOL
True! :) my sister is a hairdresser... i complained to her that DS had wayyy too much hair (we get it cut fortnightly!) she told me to stop brushing it so much!

Hehe, its only since i staretd brushing Charlee's hair all the time, that people have noticed how fast its growing....so maybe it is true!

It's TRUE!
I was taught this at Beauty School (my teacher was also a hairdresser). I think the reason she mentioned it was due to nail growth...people who type and tap their fingers a lot (musicians?) have nails that grow faster than the average nail does. She then went on to mention that it's the same with hair - you stimulate the follicle and hair matrix (which is the hair's "brain") and thus it's quicker to grow.

Now i know why my nails grow fast - Im always on the 'net
Even EJ's grandma noticed this afternoon that her hair's thicker now - I was telling her about the brushing helping it :)
Well, just to throw a spanner in the works, we hardly ever brushed DD1's hair and her hair is long and so amazingly thick.
The same with DD2, who's 13mths, ppl can't believe how much hair she has for her age, and again, we rarely ever brush her hair.:D

 DD2 still has a hilarious mullet since birth that's 1/2 way down her back when wet. Her hair is kind of curly and the mullet part curls around the side of her head so you don't even notice it. I keep meaning to cut it but I just can't bring myself to do it:rolleyes:

brushing wet or damp hair makes the hair prone to split ends and damage to the follicles.
my ds has thin hair if anyone wants to see pics of his mullet have a look at his little webpage lol DP was informing me last night ds had "hidden bald spots"
I was told to not brush my hair so much (had the 100 strokes, brady thing in my head too  ) ( not literally though  ) as it damages it:eek:
Urghhh, now Im really confused. lol :D
