The most I would pay would be $400 including the mattress. They will jump on it (no matter how many times you tell them not to), they will swing off the end of it, do everything with it that they aren't supposed to. So I don't think it is worth while spending too much on their first bed and mattress.

I spent $650 on mine. It is a king single and is wood so cost a bit more but not much really. It felt a lot sturdier then the metal frame ones. I got it from Super Amart. The bed was $379 and the mattress was about $270 on sale. I got a Sealy innerspring. I remember having a crappy mattress and bed when I was a child and it was horrible. I swore that my son wouldn't have to put up with the same.

Well i will be buying beds soon as well! (well within the next 15months) and will be buying a new Loft bed for DS, buying a new single bed for DD and handing down the cot to this baby. (id give DD DS's bedframe but thats bonkered now:o ) So im looking at spending EASILY 1500dollars. (of course less but i always overestimate)

we got one from Amart.

ds was turning 3 and this was his first bed.

its a low bunk with shelves under 3/4 and then a desk that slides in and out...it has a rail around it. we didnt use the desk until just this year and we now have a little tv on it.

he has never fallen off the bed as we slept him the fully railed in end (not the step end) he was told from day one that the bed wasnt for playing on- my other two kids have never even been on it, nor have any vistors kids...

he loves his big bed so much and it was easy to go from cot to bed.
cost $300 and matt was nearly $200.

We paid almost $400 for my ds1's bed, now it has been passed down to my ds2 as we just got a bigger bed for ourselves and ds1 now has ours in his room so we won't have to buy any extra beds until the twins are ready to go into beds lol.

I was thinking of buying a bunk bed, cos we only have the one spare room right now. They are fairly cheap, I think ive seen them for around $300, but im guessing the mattresses are thin.

For a single I wouldnt wanna spend more than $400.

i got those cheap ish foam mattresses to start cos they wee the bed and vomit etc- they are so much easier to clean and dry. i will get good mattresses when there a bit older, as for beds we had my old bunks which are in great condition i use the seperate ATM but i wan2 get them a beautiful Boori bed each in the future.

When i bought the kids new beds.. i made sure that the base is pretty decent and and solid then i bought good quality mattresses seperatly because thats more important then the base itself.

Anyhoo the boys bunk beds cost me 850 and the mattresses were around 320 mark each! Calista's frame cost me 400 and her mattress was also 320.

My DS bed cost us $240 (I hardly ever pay ticket price) and the matteress (innersprung) cost us $200, I brought the bed from super amart and the matteress from another bedding place, The bed is lovely and solid and will last him quite a few years

here's the bed we got DS http://www.superamart.com.au/DisplayItemDetail.php?ItemCode=25006#
