Hurray!! Last friday when I picked nearly 3 year old DD up from daycare we couldn't find her dummy or her toy cat puppet, both of which she gets out of her bag at naptime. So we had to spend the weekend without a dummy and it was no dramas! At bedtimes she would ask for them and I would remind her that they were lost at daycare, and that was it. No fussing by her. :yelclap: We've even walked up the baby aisle at the store and she didn't suggest buying a new one!
On monday I told the ladies at daycare that if they found the dummy to not let her see it. So we have cat back for nap and bedtime, but her dummy is now tucked away in the cupboard and hopefully will never see the light of day again.
I can't believe how easy it was. I'd tried a number of times to get her to put her dummy in the bin or give it to a baby and she was very stubborn about keeping it. I should have thought of 'losing it' long ago.

congratulations on weaning her from the dredded dummy. hubby is winging at the moment everytime i pop a dummy in my 13 motnh olds mouth. he says her teeth are going to be all crooked. i plan on her only having the dummy for a couple of years then 'losing' it when she is about 3. it would certainly be easier to get rid of a dummy than get rid of a thumb. you think hubby would understand that considering his 11 (nearly 12) is still thumb sucking on a regular basis - despite bribery to stop. (and everything else we have tried)
That's fantastic Martha! I know how attached C was to it.
I've been asking Eloise if she wants to give her dummy's to Aunty Karen (or to Santa) when she comes and visits in November but she grips them even tighter and says "no thank you"  She HAS to have three in bed with her, one in the mouth and one in either hand.

congratulations, martha. life is so much better without the dummy. ours disappeared at sleep school, never to return. no weakening, though. don't let anyone convince you that the dummy is needed! (trust me, all DHs weaken at some point).

Well done Martha! :yelclap: Our excuse for DD1 (at about 2 yrs) was 'the dogs ate them' :D
DD2 self weaned while teething, so i don't have to go through that drama again thank god.
Congrats on getting rid of the dreaded dummy :smiliedance: . we had several attempts at it - even gave it to Easter Bunny (which failed). After gradually cutting it down to almost nothing, she finally threw it away when she saw the pedal bike hung up in the shed. It's amazing how quickly they are willing to give it away when they're ready to.

Tell your DH that dummies are much better for teeth than fingers/thumbs etc. Sucking your thumb can actually change the shape of your jaw as it develops as well as how/where the teeth come through. And dummies are much easier to lose or throw away than your thumb.
