I just gave ds (18months) a jelly cup with fruit from aldi and I think he's had a hyper reaction ...
Which of these ingredients would have caused it:
Water
Sugar
Thickeners 407,410
Acidity regulators 355,331,297,332
Antioxidant 300
Natural colours 120,162
Flavour
Diced peach
Diced pear
If I could narrow it down it would be good ... Although I'm not even sure if it was a reaction or if he was just having fun and got over excited ...
Thanks

I just read the nutritional info and it says it's 27% sugar - maybe it's just that??

Oh god that's alot of sugar! I used to buy the weight watchers jelly/fruit cups as there was no sugar in it... Having said that I don't have any of that anymore as the sugar is basically equal/splenda and is linked to cancer.. When spenda is digested and is heated over 30degrees is turns to a poision..
Check a few out, but I didn't find any with lower than 20g sugar..
Good luck!

It could be the sugar!
Just note that 27% should include the natural sugars from the fruit too, hopefully there isn't much added to the jelly.

i have the chemical maze book which tells me what the numbers mean, there are a couple that are bad:
407-can cause inflammatory bowel disease and depending on the exact type can cause gastriontestinal cancer
120 (red colour)- can cause asthma, hay fever, anaphylaxis, itching, nausea
So none that cause hypo but can cause other horrible things.
It is worth getting the book, we really dont know what we are eating.

Ok. Yeah it was the total sugars.
So if it's the sugar how long would you expect him to be hyper for? It was only about 20 minutes or so and then as soon as I turned on the tv he stopped ... Which is why I don't know if it was the sugar or just excited from playing iykwim ..
Hmmmm might have to give him some tomorrow and see what happens ...

I have additive alert - great book - definitely avoid any product with 120 and 407 , it's a shame these products are promoted to kids when they are just doing so much harm
, as a pp said there would be better ones on the market with less sugar and remember to read the labels!
