Anyone have an elective c/s booked and then go into labour before the c/s date? What happened? How established was your labour before you went into the hospital? Did it all go smoothly?
Am starting to stress I wont make c/s date as have been in prelabour now for 3 weeks, baby's head engaged yesterday, tummy is tiny (haha well relatively speaking... in truth am still big as a whale but am now much smaller whale!) as baby has moved so far down and last time it looked small like this was when I was in throws of labour with DD. Am having low abdominal pain as I type this and not due for c/s until next Tues.

Hey :)
i had my c/s booked for 17/6/06 But went into full labour 3/6... I went into hospital early on the 3rd, sent home but on strict instructionsto return if things changed. I was back at lunch, admitted in the afternoon. I hadnt dilated t all but was having 3 contractions every 10min, and progressing - so i had to stay. Waters broke at around 3 or 4 am on the 4th, i was 4cm dilated, but things were going as predicted (the reason i was having a c/s) so they rushed me into theatre.
I was told that they didnt want me to go into serious labour....
Hope this helps.

You are lucky to be booked in well before your due date! My due date is the 14th October and my Ob wants to do the c/sec on the 16th!!!! Because he's going somewhere on school holidays.
I asked what happens if I start labour and he said one of the other doctors will do the surgery. Im thinking that if the labours progeressed, like if Im dialated, are they still able to do a c/sec. Thankfully mines head not engaged yet. Does your doctor know babys head is engaged? I would be asking him about it asap.

G was due on th 19th, and the c/s was booked for the 17th, and was born on the 4th.
Im not sure how far you can go in before you cant have a c/s but im pretty sure it is a bit. I wasnt allowed to labour due to a heart complication and G's heart rate as well...

Hi Paris,
Yes, dr said head engaged. Midwife said same yesterday. Baby original due date was 16th oct, had c/s booked for 10th oct and then rebooked for 3rd oct as ob said I wouldnt make the 10th oct date. The way these contractions are going tonight am wondering if I'll make the blinking 3rd oct at this rate!
DD came at 38 wks so I did kind of expect this one to come early. Am just worried I'll end up giving birth vaginally if I dont make hospital in time>?!

Susmamma - I'm so glad you raised this question, i'm due for an elective c- section on 19th December, (my due date is the 23rd Dec) but i just have this feeling there's no way I'm going to make that. and i really wanted to know what happens if I go into natural labour? so thank you for sharing.. :yelclap:

I can't understand why there seem to be so many of you having CS so close to your due date. My OB (both bub's) books the CS for 38 weeks so you don't (all going to plan) go into labor.
I figure Em CS are done at all stages throughout VB's that have problems, so I don't think there'd be a point when it's too late.

Mousebrown- good point, no idea... I wouldn't complain if i was 38 weeks.
I think if for medical reasons your having an elective and it's actually dangerous to go into labour for either you or the bub then they'll book you early. But if your basically having an elective because of bad experinces or personal reasons than they'll leave it for as long as they can so the bub can have as much development inside the womb as possible.

Hi Lauren, Yep that is exactly what the ob said when I was admitted with prelabour sympt. I was 36 weeks and he said if I go into spontaneous labour than that's ok as it means baby is ready to be born. He didnt want to take baby out via c/s at that date in order for lungs to be as mature as possible.
Also agree with previous post that vb's routinely get intervened with c/s's so probs not a problem at what stage of labour that you get there but dont really fancy not knowing how long I have to get there. I heard second births are much faster than first births and I had a psychic tell me after DD was born (whether you believe or not is another thing eh?) that I wouldnt make the c/s that I would plan for second birth as labour would happen too quickly... have been thinking about that comment a lot the last couple of weeks when lying in bed wondering about the contractions I'm feeling!
Saw a thread in the general section about psychic readings and decided to buy one online about 4 nights ago - this psychic said same thing. Fast labour (5 hours) and baby born very quickly.
Hmmmm DO NOT WANT VAG BIRTH this time round!!!
Period cramps much stronger today, in fact was driving car this afternoon and was vaguing out and thought, hmm feels like I'm about to get my period when I remembered... uh, you're 37 weeks pregnant!!!!!
Sorry think I've prattled on too much!:o

HI
My due date was 17th Sept and I had a repeat c-section (1st one I had to have due to complications) booked for 7th Sept. On the 25th August, I had what I thought was BH, as I had had for a week or so, but they started coming regularly and close so I went to hospital where tehy confirmed I was in labour and I had the c-section 2 hours later. They never checked anything below the waist to see if I was dilated and I had no other symptoms like waters breaking.
Hope this helps.

Hi filmgirlgail, did u think was odd they didnt check to see if you were dilated? How did they work out it was labour? Did they put that machine on you where they read your contractions?
Glad to hear it all worked out ok for you.

I was booked in for my cs on the 20th but my waters broke on the 17th at 11:15 pm. We called the hospital to see if we should go in & the nurse was quite rude to me asking why was I having a cs. We got there at about 12am on the 18th to check to see if the contractions have started, they were going to tell us to come back the next morning but I was leaking this green stuff (TMI sorry) & Thomas was born at 1:32 that morning. I didn't really get too for into the contractions & I only felt a few.
