ongoing abcesses on gums - teeting issues?

hi, my 7yo DS has had quite a few abscesses in his mouth...it is a painful white sore on his gums at the base of his teeth. the last time i noticed this was not too long before he lost a tooth back in july. he lost the tooth in early july, but the abscesses were present about two weeks before. he is on his 3rd or 4th batch of abscesses for this year.
i'm wondering if its to do with him starting to get a wobbly tooth, and wondered if anyone has experienced this with their child.

and , do i take him to a doctor or a dentist?
