for my cousin. She is 23. I don't know her super well as i haven't seen her much in the past 10 years (i have been o.s and she interstate for much of it) She and her fiance live with his parents and i'm guessing won't move out till after they are married, so appliances are out (they'll just sit in a cupboard for a year)

You could get a gift voucher for a day out, like a helicopter ride, or bungee jumping, or a romantic picnic, dinner cruise ...

Whats your budget??

yeah that's what i was thinking of, a voucher, but i don't know what? Not sure if they're daredevils (i know they're outdoorsy, they're both strappers), and my cousin has had an ED and is funny about eating out so don't want to make it anything foodie. I'd say $50-$100, but could be $200 if my mum and i get something together.

Red balloon.

you select an amount that your voucher is for and then they chose what they do be it balloon rides or skydiving or movies etc!!!!

i think is just www. redballoon .com without the spaces....if not - google it! very popular

Are they saving to move out? I would give them money towards that if that were the case.

Engagement presents that I loved were home items you wouldn't buy yourself, but I lived with DH already. I will list them because I was 20 when we had our party, but we are probably very different people so I dont know if it will help.

Amazing high thread count sheets
Crystal
Wine glasses, his and hers.
gift voucher for a gorgeous hotel
Matching bath setting
Good quality photo frames.
Myer vouchers for new clothes (haha yes, specified to us)

Getting lots of money was good too, but we didnt save it:eek:

I just got one if my friends some gold class movie tix and a voucher for food. They live together so "house"presents were out. I figured they would need some time out together with all the wedding planning.

I would just give them the cash
Pick out a nice card to go with it and write out a nice, thoughtful message inside.

Better that then risking getting something they either dislike or already own/don't need. I think the nice card and handwritten message takes it away from being too impersonal.

What about a portrait sitting? A fancy one where they do hair / makeup etc and get pampered? Could be a nice "before we got married and the stress of life made us wrinkly" photo lol???

I was given a voucher for a canvas print & have since used the same idea as gifts for all sorts of occasions. The place we used is called Brilliant Prints & they actually print out the voucher with whatever you want to say on a piece of canvas.

Ill tell you what I get all my friends who get engaged...
A cook book called "Bride & Groom Cookbook"
You can get online from Book Depository about $45 I think.
I think its a great gift. I was given one, Im not a cook, so its never actually been opened but I like the thought and idea behind it!

You'd be uninvited to my wedding if you gave ME that.

I can think of anything more painful than having my wife fuss over me and dress me for some crappy portrait and forcing me to sit still all the while poking me in the ribs telling me to smile and not to mess it up.

shame on you.

p.s i thought initially you meant portrait as in a painting, not a photo. Photos arent so bad, but still... *shudders* not my cup of tea.

thanks guys. Spoke to mum and they are moving back to QLD so rather than an 'experience' type voucher we are just going with a Myer voucher. Does anyone know if there is a Myer on the GC? That will be their closest city. .

the safest way to go is some gift voucher or cash. For sure, they'll love what they get

Just one more idea for you; you could get them a prepaid VISA card, that way they can use it anywhere that VISA is accepted.

They can also use it in conjunction with cash or other giftcards to buy a more exensive item that they need.

Short and sweet because I sent this from my iPhone.

Our best engagement present was our washing machine but as u said appliances are out I'd go with something they could both enjoy like a voucher for a day spa or couples retreat or footy tickets
