View Full Version : Bad Breath
Sometimes I notice that my baby has a bit of odour to her breath.
She is on 3 solid meals a day.... vegies, tuna, chicken, meat - the usual.
I posted another thread regarding brushing teeth, which hasnt had much response, but basically Im just wiping in her mouth on her teeth and gums with a wet cloth at bath time.
I just want to know is it normal for a bit of stinky breath???
DD went through a stage where I noticed an acidic odour to her breath sometimes. I mentioned it to the GP, and she suggested that she may not be drinking enough water. I started giving her a water flask more often throughout the day, and that seemed to fix it. May be worth a try!
Hmmm not at that age I wouldnt think? I have heard that throat infections etc can cause bad breath though. My 3.5 and nearly 2 year old still only occassionally get bad breath but didnt at that age.
she does drink alot of water... maybe worth mentioning to my GP next time we see her. She does have a bit of a runny nose at the moment, so maybe that has something to do with it....

Thrush can also cause bad breath.
Maybe use a little bit of baby toothpaste when brushing (wiping?) their teeth?

DD only gets a bit of a stinky breath when she's sort of got a cold...although she's only been "sick" twice with a cold and both times it lasted like a day lol
Can't hurt to mention to your GP just to be on the safe side.
ok well she has a bit of a cold at the moment and has suffered from thrush before, but doesnt seem to have it at the moment....
I saw a dr once when she had severe nappy rash and it turned out to be thrust and he freaked me out mentioning she may have diabetes???? but apparently diabetes they get a fruity smell on their breath... and this isnt a fruity smell.
I was meant to get a urine sample but I found it so difficult, I gave up... I know - bad mother but I just didnt think she would have diabetes???
I notice that DD1 often gets bad breath when she has a chest infection or asthma her coming on. I tend to notice that first and the cough soon follows.
One of THOSE mums!

My Ds gets bad breath when he is cutting a tooth or sick. We just make sure he drinks plenty of water. It never lasts long.
