View Full Version : When does chicken become "A Chicken"..?
Just curious as to when peoples children connected "chicken" for dinner to "chicken" that we read about in farm books iykwim...?
DS tonight looked at me oddly when i said we were having Chicken for dinner... just wondering if its starting to register.... he is 30mths
Also when it does happen, how do you explain it to them without devestating them at the same time !!??
Thanks

Oh good question Tracey!! I have no idea, Connor isn't fussed on chicken, so I havn't had that issue yet.

I haven't had that issue yet, thankfully. BUt now you have me thinking on how exactly I will explain it to my children when they do ask..:detective:
I was just thinking about this today. Andrew knows chicken the animal and chicken the food and I was wondering when the connection would be made.....mind you, I was watching something today with him and there was a pig and I said 'look, theres a pink pig. pig's taste yummy' or something like that. I wasn't even thinking about it, but it cracks me up now to think of it :D
Maybe one day there will be a lightbulb moment for them? I guess you just never really know when it is going to 'click'...

Poor Samuel! I remember knowing, but not wanting to know. My Pa used to put his chicken bones together and make them cluck!

That is so wrong and yet so funny!
Gosh, I'd never thought about how kids make that connection.
Now I'm really surprised there aren't more toddlers insisting on being vegetarians!!
Maybe he wasn't looking at you oddly because of the chicken, Tracey. Maybe he just thought that you looked silly with that flowerpot on your head. :p

Ahhhhhh that would explain it.... he also looks at me oddly whenever i tell him to "put his hand inside the puppet head" .... ;)
back to the topic though as i would really love to hear from a mum who has dealt with it as i am curious as to what reactions a child could give ..... My DH gave me one idea tonight and i'm not even going there !! Hazel79 you could just imagine ... your DH would probably suggest the same horrible thing !!!
