Thought i would start this thread.
I am a first time mummy, and have tried everything to keep my little one amused.
However he gets bored very easily.
I read books to him close to nap times, i get on the floor with him and play with the toys etc to keep him going. This doesnt entertain him for too long before he whinges.
As i dont like to hold him constantly, i move him about, from tummy time to his walker to the jolly jumper ... well you get the jist of it
Has anyone got any advice on what i can do....
I have been told that this is one of the hardest times to entertain but im seriously running out of ideas:banghead:
any mums going through this stage as well and is there any mums that can give us some advice?????
PLEASE HELP

I guess all bubs are different so what works for my DD may not work for you, but for a lot of the day I have her strapped in a rocker/bouncer and I give her a selection of bright toys to play with. I'll move her from room to room with me depending on what I need to do - something on the computer, something in the kitchen or to watch some TV. Of course, I also get her out of the bouncer quite a few times a day to have tummy time, let her roll around and practice sitting up.
Have you tried sitting him in front of the telly with one of those Baby Einstein DVD's? They are fantastic & are made for different age groups........eg 3-6 month, 6-9 months etc.
Also, my in-laws babysat her on the weekend and said for about 1 hour she played with a coloured catalogue (not black & white because it would give her dirty fingers). She just liked to look at the bright pictures and to scrunch it everynow and then.
Good luck :)
True all little ones are different, BUT my 5mth old is also hard to keep amused. I try all the same things you have mentioned and still he gets bored, sometimes he will last seconds and sometimes a good 15mins, but no longer. We got the Steve Irwin Wiggles DVD the other day, and I know he should be too young for TV and the wiggles, BUT he loved it, when some songs were on he just went crazy, very funny. It gives me a little extra time and he seems to enjoy it!!!!!
Good Luck, and remember every day is a new one, and I figure one day he will be too busy to want to spend time with his Mummy!!!

thanx all...
i do give him paper to scrunch etc but he tends to want to eat it all the time... lol
i agree that all bubs are different.. I know of a baby that is happy laying on the floor all day and not do anything..
he does watch telly for awhile but gets bored after awhile...
sounds silly but i wish they had a babies manual or something.. :D to help with questions like this...
thanx for the advice .. i gather that i am doing everything that i can to keep him amused ...
and you are right .. tomorrow is another day

try puzzles...
nooo, not 5000 peices obviously..
start with your wooden peg kind..
my youngest has been a nightmare to keep up with his stimulation needs.. got to be 2 steps ahead all the time..
but puzzles are definetly a winner with him..
& still at 3 [next week] he loves them..
mind you, i still have to have other things like board games & dominoes on the back burner, inbetween all the usual entertainment/amusement..
good luck... it certainly keeps you on your toes:yes:
ok. you probably already try these but these are a few things that entertained my son.
Wiggles!! (i love the wiggles, i would have died without them!) he often got bored sometimes but if i danced around like an idiot just like they do he would love it! and it was good exercise!
just dancing around with him in my arms! to any music! and singing and being silly.
He started liking raspberries on his tummy at about that age too.
If you can go out, try going on the swings and slides at the park with them on your lap (good way to make them tired)
Lay them tummy down across your arm and swing them in the air.
Aiden loved to share a bath with me. That way i got to relax and he got to splash me!
go around the house searching for things... making a game of it. we still do this every morning... "wheres daddy?? is he in here?? NOOOO. etc going all over the place and looking in silly places like cupboards.
oh and mirrors are great entertainers! my son has always loved the mirror!
also you exercise with bubs. ie pelvic tilts sitting bubs on your stomach. or pushups with bubs laying underneath you so your face to face and everytime you go down give them a kiss! or squats holding them with their back pressed against your chest.
aidens favourite song at that age for me to act like a fool to was "jump jump star" off the fairies!! boy was i glad when he stopped wanting that!
singing songs like eency weency spider, or this little piggy went to market. Heads, shoulders knees and toes. i also used to do this song
clap your hands, one-two-three, (while clapping his hands together)
play a clapping game with me. (then i clapped mine)
Now your hands have gone away (hid his hands in mine)
Find your hands so we can play! (and at the end opened my hands so he could see his again!)
also the teddy bear teddy bear song. with actions with a teddy bear.
"Teddy bear, teddy bear turn around,
Teddy bear, teddy bear touch the ground/
Teddy bear, teddy bear, jump up and down,
Teddy bear, teddy bear play the clown.
Teddy bear, teddy bear jump in the air.
Teddy bear, teddy bear land over there. (then id fly the bear over his head and put it down on the other side.)
anyway i think thats a long enough :ecomcity: good luck, they can be difficult to entertain, but just lots of variety and change things when they start getting grumpy.

wow neeky you must be an extremely fit mummy... i have jumped about the room looking like an idiot but now i have more things to do with him...
he has just started discovering the wiggles but only when captain feathersword speaks...
i wore myself out today just trying to keep him entertained...
Thanks for the advice everyone i will try them all... well what i havent tried already... :smiliedance:
Yeah im so not fit! I have to stop all the time!! I like captain feathersword! i like their "qauck quack" song! we only have one dvd of theirs and one video, so needless to say i know all the words off by heart! although ive been keeping them off more lately so i could get a break. thought i was going to go insane by the time they finished.
Oh and you should join the library, they have kids music cds and some kids music videos that you can hire... comes in handy! And aiden just loves going there, there is always new people everytime and lots of bright colours and fun stuff!

Mia gets really bored when we stay inside all day, no matter how many things she has to play with/watch/do. But if we go outside (I put a picnic rug down then a blanket on top) with her toys she will play happily and look around for at least an hour, plus she has a really good nap afterwards. The fresh air does both of us good:yes:

the only problem with doing that for me miamumma is that i dont have any fences and my neighbours a sticky noses.. i am well try to be as private as possible ... and you can see them when they are on tiptoes having a gander... i do go outdoors at mums though and he still gets upset ...
Eliza plays and plays it's crazy
Buy and excersaucer I really, really recommend it she will play on her own in it for about 45-60 mins it's great!
Otherwise we sit on the floor playing with rattles, books, soft toys, we excercise together we go to the park lay under trees watching them blow around, she lays in her cot watching her mobile where she is right now infact, she loves baths, read to her, she also has a baby bach piano by fisher price she is addicted to this and will also play on her own for 30 mins or with me, play throwing her don't actually chuck them lol, sing to them play peekaboo,, TV whoo so much to do, so little time! :D

Some people are nosey aren't they! Umm, let me think what else works for Mia. Oh she loves anything with fabric tags, she will play with them for ages. She loves blocks in red, yellow and blue. No other colours though LOL .She loves a kick and play thingamajig (cant remember what the proper name is for it  ) She loves things that she can push around the floor infront of herself, and things that make lots of noise. She likes things that make a noise when she scrunches them, she has a fabric book that she loves, it has different textures, things to pull etc. She has a squeeker, that she loves, she has played with it so much the squeeker has nearly died so she needs a new one  . That said the thing she likes most is if one of us gets down with her and talks, sings, plays with her.
Good luck! :fingerscrossed: Hope you find something that works for you.
