I'm allergic to Kiwi Fruit, and I've realised I've never offered it to my ds (4.5 years). I'm not worried he's allergic, but how do I give it to him and yet make sure I don't end up with a reaction myself? Do I bother?

I'm pretty good at avoiding Kiwi Fruit, but the last time I had a reaction was when my dh had a slice of it on a chocolate mousse at a restaurant and then 20 minutes later he gave me a quick kiss on the lips (we had separate cars and I had to leave early). So I ended up at home alone with tingling mouth/face & hives. Not pleasant. Thankfully that's as bad as the reaction got.

So, how do/did you introduce a food to your child that you must avoid?

If u have such a reaction id say i would avoid giving it to him to be honest !
If it is something he likes it wont be practical for him to be eating it around u in case of reaction kwim ?

I've never had that experience but I would think it would be better to try him on it in a controlled environment ( say by your DH in the morning so you can watch for reactions during the day and race him up to emergency just in case) just in case he is allergic and one day at school or at a party someone gives it too him it's better to know for sure I think so you can be prepared :)
