Hi all
Just a quick question for you all. My son is sick with the cold (coughing, bit of flem, husky voice etc) and we have a 5 month old daughter as most of you know. Last time he got sick she was mostly breastfed but now she isnt and im worried about what the risks are of her getting sick.
In what instantances have your babies got sick from your other kids??
I know i should already know this but im just feeling a bit worried and needed to get an opinion. Thanks guys.

Hi,
I have a 2year old and an almost 5mth old. My baby is Formula Fed and has picked up one cold from her big sister this year. It is impossible to keep DD1 away from the baby so I think it is inevitable that she will get sick as well. I do try and keep them seperated but it makes DD1 want to go near the bub even more if I tell her not to.
Amazingly though DD2 seemed to get over her cold so much quicker than anyone else in the family did. They are pretty resilient(sp?) these little ones of ours.
:fingerscrossed: your little one doesn't get her brothers cold.
Cheers

My kids never got sick while i was breastfeeding, the moment i stopped they did, i have a 3 year old and a 22 month old and they always get sick together, one gets sick then the other gets sick then dear old mum gets sick, this has only been the case since we started playgroup though. I dont think you can help when your kids get sick if she is still being partly breastfed she might be alright. Dont worry about it too much.

my sil breastfed all her boys until nearly 2 and they have from a few months old been sick and still get sick to this day every few months they are sick yet my kids who werent bf are hardly ever sick so i think it depends on the kids and their immune system not really if they were bf:thumbsup:

i really found with dd2 and ds3 there is no protecting them from bugs (dd2 had first cold within a week of getting home). with one child you can isolate them from bugs a fair bit, but not so much with more than one - especially if older ones are at kinder/school/daycare or whatever.
My advice is, relax, don't worry too much - all my kids have each had a stage a few months long when they get cold after cold - while their immune systems are kicking into gear. Just go with the flow, pull out the baby panadol if necessary, and cut down what you are expecting to achieve other than caring for the little ones.

I have to agree with everyone. If they are going to get it, they will. It's no different to going shopping and picking up a bug there.

 exactly what I was going to say! Oh and give them heaps of fluids.
EJ's breastfed and everytime her cousins get a cold she picks it up also - well except this time as she hasnt got it yet and they've had it a week or so :fingerscrossed: Her youngest cousin whos 2&1/2 months also has been getting colds and he's bfeed also.
I agree with the others if they are gonna get it they will.
