My DS is nearly 7mths old and is contipated as of yesterday. He was straining and a little bit of soft poo would comme out then nothing. He has been straining all day and night then screams afterwards.
He has only just started on solids and hasnt really taken to them so I cant see it been the problem ( he has only about a half a cup in total of fruit and vege over a fortnight). I did give him some stewed pears last night, he has had 2 extras bottles of water with a tiny pinch of brown sugar in each and a glycerol suppository.
It is now today and he is still straining and crying and nothing is comming out. Should I give him another suppository? The box didnt come with instruction.

I second the prune juice. It has worked without fail everytime.
Also I make sure he has pear everyday.

ill third the Prune juice!
if u can catch him in the act, gentle tummy massage to help it out =) (worked with babies in childcare for many years and it makes it a little earier, well it worked for them) =)
good luck!
Do u breast or bottle feed?
Prune juice always works for us diluted in water but on the time it didn't, I put a teaspoon of sugar in 3 of her bottles consecutively in a 24 hr period and that worked!

My girl had severe constipation from around 4-7months. We tried coloxyl, brown sugar prune juice, fruit purees that contain apple, pears and apricot as they are best to eat when constipated. Went to the drs and got told to get the exact same suppositories you are using. Whilst they helped soften it it didnt help the real problem. What helped us was giving her more water. They should have atleast 50ml of water after each feed(or atleast try to aim for that much), my dr told me this. We syringed our DD after every meal,(and you can also add water to their solids) or if his not on solids still just give water morning, noon and night. She is now constipation free, and we still give her water daily, to make sure it doesnt happen again. She also had a tear/fissure cause her constipation, you dont want that happening, their poor screams when they go breaks your heart. FYI she is breastfed, so it doesnt matter if there BF or FF.

The prune juice may help - or pear juice which I recomend 'cause it's just as laxative and tastes nicer.
Don't be afraid of using the suppositories regularly - they're not stimulant-irritants so they're not addictive. They don't actually solve the problem, but if that's the only way to ensure she's doing a daily dooey...well we've been there.
