View Full Version : Pregnant and run out of milk?
I'm pregnant and have noticed in the last few weeks that breastfeeding DD has become really painful. I thought it was due to sensitive nipples and being pregnant but today i realised i'm not producing any milk. At first i thought it was just because i was doing it by hand but expressing won't work either, even after DD has been on. Sometimes i can hear DD swallowing but i'm starting to wonder if it's milk or not. DD will be 2 next month and i was really looking forward to tandem feeding but i don't exactly feel comfortable thinking DD is just sucking on nipple. Has anyone else experienced this and what did you do?

My DD weaned because of this 2-3mths ago... So so sad... She was 22mths so a good stint, she asked for boobie first time since yesterday after a huge weekend but I just got a boobie kiss. So so so sad :(

Subscribing - I'm 16 weeks and I hope my booby monster doesn't stop as I'd love her to take up my excess amounts..
MK - did your supply significantly increase?

Maxalon?!?! Freaking wish I'd heard it improves milk!!!! I'm about to start sprouting fenugreek so will be munching on tht in a wk or so!
I found my supply all but disappeared by about 16 weeks and Esmé complained that one was empty and the other tasted bad. But she's committee and kept on trying and my supply came back about 20 weeks. This also coincided with the pain disappearing. It's sore again now at 38 weeks but when I expressed the other day it was more like nature milk than colustrum and Esmé says it's yummy. No hope of her weaning any time soon.

Hmmm, I wonder if like you SPC, there is a waning and then an increase? I am really hoping that is the case!
I am finding right now I'm experiencing a physical aversion. She wakes in the middle of her nap and so I go back and feed her, and it irritates me to no end when she feeds like that...hopefully the hormones settle a bit..

I've experienced exactly the same thing. My supply dropped and then stopped completely by about week 17. It was really painful and mentally i didn't want anyone near my breasts at all. I'm 19 weeks now and DD still seems interested in feeding if she see's me topless so I'm hoping in a week or so my supply will start up again and she can start feeding again.
I'm desperate to tandem feed too :goodvibes:

Dragonfly tandem is awesome!! I'd really recommend it it's bliss once you get the hang of it.. Hope I get to do it again one day <3 good luck! Great support is a must IMO though thankfully mum gp and lactation consultant had all been there :)

Yes :) went from DRY to good supply, and DS was a big feeder :) I don't hesitate to recommend to any feeding pregnant mums :goodvibes: :bee: I still go back on occasionally when my body tells me I've had enough lol. (I think different so does dd ;) )
Thank you for all the replies ladies. I feel a lot better now and will continue trying to feed DD. It doesn't seem to bother her that much so it's lucky i don't have to worry about her self weaning.
I'm 18 weeks today so hopefully in the next 2 weeks my milk comes back :smiliedance:
