Hi

I have been TTC for 2 and a half years. I have PCOS, Endo and have had one round of IVF. I have had 2 miscarriages.

I have been booked in for lap surgery in a weeks time and I am very scared. I have had PCOS/ fibriods for years and one doctor after another laughed at me saying there is nothing wrong. Then I recently had a scan with new Repro specialist and she has booked me in asap for surgery to remove 4.5cm cyst on ovary and 5cm+ fibroid on uterus. She has asked me to consent to open abdominal surgery to correct fairly severe endo accross my bowel/ bladder etc. I am also having a camera inside my uterus to check for any damage.

I am so scared. Not sure if this is serious in terms of cysts and fibroids growing quickly, or that as they are large may damage ovary/uterus??

Most scared that I will never get a BFP that I can carry through.

Thanks for listening

Jill xx

Hi Jill,

have you ever had a lap before? I only had the 4 incisions when I had mine in Feb, and they removed significant endo (which I didn't know I had until surgery), checked my tubes were clear, gave me a curette, ovarian drilling and removed a cyst from my right ovary. That surgery was the best thing I could have had done, I didn't even realise that I wasn't supposed to be in so much pain during AF until it was gone and my stomach felt great! It did great things for my fertility, I started ovulating 2 weeks after, unfortunately due to the severity of my PCOS my ovaries are swollen and sitting next to each other (FS is not sure the egg is reaching the tube properly), so I am about to start IVF, but my surgery put me in a great position to do so successfully so I am so much more positive. Did your specialist discuss the risks with you, and desired outcomes? I'd give them a call and let them know your concerns if they weren't clear on those. They thought the cyst on my ovary was a dermoid cyst (growing hair!) but it turned out to be more endo. That is the side I have had pains on every month since when I ovulate and the side I believe I am ovulating from, so having the cyst removed seemed to really help it rather than damage it.

Hoping you benefit from surgery as much as I did and have a speedy recovery
