View Full Version : Leaky nappies - any recommendations?
A friend of mine is asking for nappy recommendations - her 9 month old has nappies that leaks overnight. She currently uses Huggies but says the main problem has been that it leaks up the baby's back.
Can anyone recommend any fixes or nappy recommendations? Was it the Safeway/Woolworths Select brand ones that have a higher back?

Hmm.. that's really weird that huggies nappies are doing that. Do you know if she is putting it on properly or tight enough ? Silly question i know but i have never come across anyone who's had probs with Huggies before. :o

I've had nothing but trouble with huggies with my boy. When he poops its almost certain to go all over whatever he has on or all over me. So I'm using up what I have left as overnight nappies as he hasn't pooped at night since he was 10 weeks old. He rarley wees at night either but the first wee of the morning is usually a biggie and the huggies do seem to hold in the wetness fairly well. Snugglers seem to be working for us at the moment but I'm transitioning to cloth so we'll see how we go.
(never had a problem with the newborn size, just when we went up to Infant and crawler sizes.)

Huggies as well as Snugglers are cr@p....they (cr@p....they) have always leaked with my DS.
The BEST nappy out there are the mamia Aldi Brand - no leaks overnight plus they can hold and overnight poo plus a morning poo (in case bub gets to do no. 2s x 2 before you change the nappy hehehehe) all in one nappy without any leakage.
I don't normally comment in disposable nappy queries, because I haven't ever used them and don't want anyone to think that I disrespect their choice to use them... but this question doesn't omit the possibility of my suggestion, so, I just wanted to comment here...
I have lots of friends who use disposables and no matter what they did, what brand it was, if the baby was sitting, laying in bed, etc. almost every one of them (80%) has had at least one up-the-back leak.
Of my friends who have used cloth nappies, the opposite is true, no more than 20%, if that, have had any leaks at all. Maybe it's the double line of defence (elastic at the leg of the nappy and the cover), maybe it's the texture of the nappy being able to 'catch' poo and wee... I don't know, but if disposable leaks are a problem, I encourage people to think a bit about cloth nappies, particularly modern cloth options. They really do result in fewer (by a long shot) leaks than disposables, and some people who have converted form disposables have found they do less washing because they don't need to deal with washing dirty clothes and bedding. Anyway, food for thought.
I hope she finds a solution one way or another. :)

Hi guys
My dd has eczema which has forced me to change the type of cloth nappy that I was using. I am in the process of testing out a couple of different pocket nappies so only have a couple of each brand, which doesn't tide us over for long, so I have been using Huggies disposables while washing the cloth.
Since Huggies have bought out their new design of nappy (different pictures but also more stretchy back, new tabs, etc) I have had nothing but trouble with them! Continually leaking up the back! My dd would easily last through the night in their old style but not anymore, it's so annoying.
Has anyone else been having problems with their new style?
Maybe the Mamia nappies, they're HUGE for the size they're meant to be so they hold a lot. :)
cheekygirlsmummy - I've had the opptosite of what you describe. Cobey would leak through the old huggies but the new ones he's never EVER leaked through

I'm in the transition from using disposables to cloth with DD, but I have always had trouble with the Aldi brand- they just didn't do the job with either of my kids.
I found that with huggies, when they started to leak (day or night) it was time to go up a size- even if they were still technically within the right weight bracket for that size. Worth a try?

I just put fluffies on over the Huggies at night time it has TOTALLY stopped the leakage problem.:smiliedance:

The new Huggies are the best not only do they have such cute pic but they dont leak at all for my DS//
I find snugglers Just SH$T Over night nappy would be soaked and wet all up his back also he pooped and nanny wore it! (haha)

assuming this is the fluffies fitted cover from Kmart, etc? If this is the case I find it really surprising and infuriating that disposable nappy companies are making a product that is so inferior to cloth products that parents need to use BOTH to get their child through the night without leaks. If it were me using them and having leaks, I would call it unacceptable, and search for a fully customisable option for our needs.
