Can anyone give me any advice for great toys to get my DD for xmas / birthday (she turns 2 in Jan)? I soooooo need to get organised, but it's hard to know what she'll be into in a few months, plus I want to get things that will last a long time since she'll have to wait until next xmas to get another good stash of toys.

Thanks :)

i am in the same pickle as you with my ds... his bday is in march and although its 3 months after xmas it still is soo close... :banghead: then the next month is easter..

im getting ds a bike for either xmas or bday... the ones with the handles for mum or dad to push and steer.. and a play gym for outside... if that helps you... they are unisex...

Have you thought about a LeapPad MyFirstLeapPad (we didn't bother with the First Touch leappad)? I know the recommended age is 3-5, but we gave our 2+YO one for Christmas. At first we sat together and 'read', now she reads and sings and tells stories all by herself. We started with the Thomas book, the Nursery Ryhmes and Number Farm. Leappad have an English accent as opposed to the American in Fisher Price and Vtech.

Or a drawing board. One with a chalkboard on one side and where you can clip paper on the other?

We got the leappad when DS1 was just one but only now he is 2 he is starting to use it. nad DS2 will be ale to use it as well.
We are wiggles mad house and I found the wiggles car at TARGET and lay byed it, $70 off. It's one you ride, has lights and goes forward and backwards. We have a big car port so plenty of room to ride it.. Those little tike plastic cars, the kids can push around with their feet seem cool as well. My DS1 loves being outside and is so rough so that's what he is getting for Chrissy this year. Having trouble about what to get for my 5 month old they don't know about christmas yet but I don't want him to miss out.

I totally agree with My First LeapPad. DS got one when he was nearly 2 and just LOVED it. He now has the normal one and loves it just as much.

Another thing that DS got when he was about that age was the Little People farm. Still at 5 1/2 he plays with it, so I'd say you can't go wrong with Little People.

Strangely, my DS didn't play with his chalkboard very much at all....

The two favourite toys my DS got for his 2nd birthday (March this year) and that he STILL loves and plays with are his toy microwave and toy cash register !
Both were only $20 each and he just doesnt stop playing with them.

Like Samsmum04, I also bought a toy cash register when DD was 2 ($6 on sale at Coles! ) and DD still loves it at nearly 3. It has a working keypad/calculator on it so at first she just pushed numbers (great learning) but we now play at shopping.

Toy food to go with the cash register might be good. You can pick some up for under $20.

You can start getting simple 3, 4 and 5 piece jigsaw puzzles if you haven't already.

Books (always always always).
Hmmm, what else did we get? 2 Tonka construction trucks for the sand box ($6 each), but these don't get much use. Markers and crayons are always a hit. A wind up music box is on this year's Christmas list, I didn't think of it last year. Her big present was a tricycle with parent handle. Dress up clothes, such as for fairies and princesses.

What great ideas! I think the Little People will be a big hit, and I'm thinking some Duplo as well - it's good to know what other have people found was good for a long time - it's hard to predict what they'll be into in the future :detective: Thanks :)

Duplo is definately a winner here. I can confidently say not a day has gone by since we got it that DS hasn't played with it. There's cool little timber train sets at IKEA too which they love to push around the track. Definately drawing stuff, the thick crayons are fantastic. My DS also loves the cash register. Oh and we've got a mini toy vacuum that regularly gets a workout. :D
