View Full Version : Sleeping in the cot
Hi all,
My DD has been sleeping in her cot since Friday. And I am trying to get her to start settling herself but since she has learnt to roll from her back to her tummy, I am finding this an impossible feat as she rolls as soon as she is put down. Once she rolls she gets all worked up and it takes forever to calm her back down. She hasn't been wrapped since she was 2months old and I'm afraid that to try and start doing this again would upset the both of us.
Have any other Mums been through the same thing? If so, how did you combat this, what techniques/props did you use?

Hi Lambie,
My DS is ablout the same age as your DD and starting doing this aswell, I tried almost everything. I worry alot so putting extra things in the cot wasn't an option for me, i even breifly considered pinning him to the matress :D What i found works though is putting him in a sleeveless sleeping bag, this way he can get his leg up to roll over, he tries a few times but can't make it, it has to be the right size though, not to big not too small. You can find them at most baby shops - i even saw one at target last time i was there. Also, reversing the baby monitors has made him alot calmer when he sleeps and combats his restlessness at night when he wakes and tries to roll again.
Hope this helps :)

Me again... :)
I just saw that your in Brisbane aswell. If you think the bag idea might work DJ's have thin ones for summer they are called snugtime i think.
Thanks for your suggestions guys.
Samantha, I'm with you about putting extra things into the cot with her. Like the idea about pinning her:p ...think I might try a sleeping bag first tho:laughing:

I think most bubs go through this stage, we did with DS.
We were advised by the MACH nurses to leave him on his tummy if he rolled over. Basically, he got there, let him deal with it. It sounded mean to us at first as he'd get really cranky and upset. Of course, we wouldn't let him get too upset, but similar to how controlled crying works, he soon decided to live with it and would go to sleep. We would then turn him back over once he was asleep.
And it does tend to be a short phase anyway, since it's not normally too long before they can turn themselves back over.
