View Full Version : Getting frustrating!

My DD has been waking every hour from about midnight the last few nights. The ONLY way I can get her to resettle is the breast. I'm sure she can't possibly be hungry and I don't think she is cold. She does seem to have lots of bottom burps going on so perhaps she has a belly ache... But surely more food does not fix that problem. My best friends only advice is that I just have to let her cry... But I am not letting my baby scream down the house in the middle if the night. I really don't see what that would achieve other than an even crankier baby.
I would really like some sleep so any suggestions on how to get her to resettle?

If boobie and a cuddle calms her down and she goes back to sleep within 20 minutes i'd stick with that. I did with DS2. I know it is against what is suggested but I preferred that over 3 hours of rocking and patting. I also figured out he night woke when he was overtired going to bed.
Have you tried elevating the head of the cot a little? Both my boys preferred sleeping with a slight incline.
Hopefully someone else has better advice than me.
I found when my son was going through a period of regular night waking, it usually turned out he was teething or sick, but it only became obvious after a few days. A few very hard days though!
I co-sleep with my son which made it easier as I didn't have to get up.
Hopefully things improve soon.

Teething could be it I guess. Also I'm thinking the bassinet is running out of room... Maybe she's feeling cramped and it's time to move to the cot?

Hi Mumma2011
My DD is 2 1/2 now and has always been a terrible sleeper. It's a constant battle with sleep and keeping her asleep.
But when she woke at that age I found if I wrapped her really tight (I mean very tight to keep her still) she slept a whole lot better. It made her feel a little more secure and it helps them drift off.
Other than that try elevating her head a little, as mentioned earlier. If she's got wind she could be very uncomfortable and this helps relieve it. Also try putting her belly over your knees and putting her back, it helps get rid of the bubbles in her system. If she seems very windy you could try some gripe water. It helps with wind. There are a few other products out there that do similar things as well.
Check her gums for lumps, she could be pushing through some toothy pegs at that age.
If all else fails, and she seems hungry, talk to your doctor or nurse about giving her a little bit of rice cereal. She might be hungry for something a little more substantial? I've heard of tht. My brother was a hungry baby and mum had to start him on solids at 3 months cause he was just hungry!
Hope things get better for you! Sleep deprivation is a terrible thing.
